    摘要: Various embodiments of the present invention provide systems and methods for media defect detection. For example, a media defect detection systems is disclosed that includes a data input derived from a medium, a fast envelope calculation circuit that receives the data input and provides a fast decay envelope value based on the data input, a slow envelope calculation circuit that receives the data input and provides a slow decay envelope value based on the data input, and a media defect detection circuit. The media defect detection circuit receives the slow decay envelope value and the fast decay envelope value, calculates a ratio value of the fast decay envelope value to the slow decay envelope value, and asserts a defect output based at least in part on the comparison of the ratio value to a defect threshold value.

    摘要: A calibration circuit and a calibration method thereof for data recovery are provided. The calibration circuit includes an amplitude detector, a period detector, and a compensation circuit. The amplitude detector samples amplitudes of a data signal according to a zero-crossing signal and outputs an amplitude signal accordingly. The period detector counts a clock signal according to the zero-crossing signal and outputs a period signal accordingly. The compensation circuit receives the amplitude signal, the period signal, and the data signal. The compensation circuit adjusts a phase of the data signal by calculating differences between a reference signal and the amplitude signal and between the reference signal and the period signal and outputs a calibrated data signal accordingly. Accordingly, a better recognition performance on the data signal is achieved by calibrating the data signal in real-time.

    摘要: A read/write head for use with bit-patterned media detects write synchronization errors between a write clock and the bit-patterned media. In particular, the read/write head writes data to the bit-patterned media using a write clock. The data is then read from the bit-patterned media and used to detect write synchronization errors between the write clock and the location of bit-islands on the bit-patterned media. Based on detected write synchronization errors, the phase associated with the write clock is modified to align the write clock with the location of bit-islands on the bit-patterned media.
