Aspects of the method may include generating within a single-chip multi-band RF receiver, at least one control signal based on signal strength of a baseband frequency signal generated within the single-chip multi-band RF receiver. A bandwidth of a filter integrated within the single-chip multi-band RF receiver may be adjusted via the generated at least one control signal. The filter may be used for filtering the generated baseband frequency signal. A frequency response signal of the filter integrated within the single-chip multi-band RF receiver may be determined via a reference frequency signal. An attenuated reference frequency signal may be generated by attenuating the reference frequency signal. The attenuated reference frequency signal may be compared with the frequency response signal. The at least one control signal may be generated based on the comparison.

The present invention relates to a combination RF tuner capable of receiving signals from the FM radio band and from the TV band. Prior art combination tuners had to compromise in quality resulting in combination tuners that neither exhibited high-end FMnor TV-signal reception behavior. A combination RF tuner capable of optimal receiving an FM-radio signal type and a TV signal type, comprising a switch-able tuned input filter (440), is proposed. One response of the input filter (440) provides a sufficient big bandwidth for enabling reception of the TV-signal type. The input filter (440) of the invention can be switched, providing a second response that has a smaller bandwidth for enabling reception of the FM-radio signal type. The second response can be realized by substantially bypassing an 10 inductive element (450) (e.g., comprising a inductor, L21, in series with a damping resistor, R3) of the input filter (440).

A high input selectivity UHF varactor tuner for a television receiver in which unamplified radio frequency signals are inductively coupled to a double tuned half-wave preselector comprising two aperture coupled half-wave tuned lines in separate resonant cavities. The double tuned preselector includes varactor diodes on one end of each tuned line and fixed capacitors on the other end of each line. To compensate for decreasing Q of the varactor diodes with decreasing frequency and thereby maintain a uniform bandwidth for the tuner over the entire UHF spectrum, inductive coupling is provided between the tuned lines at the fixed capacitor ends which, during low frequency operation of the tuner, augments aperture coupling between the lines.
