摘要: An EDT apparatus 1 is disclosed, comprising a dielectric fluid return system for use with an EDT machine of the type in which the workpiece is not submersed in dielectric fluid. The return system comprises a first collector 19 for catching spills from a dielectric bath 9 associated with a set of electrodes 10 which apply electrical pulses to the workpiece through the dielectric fluid in the bath. Also, a separate, second collector 21 is positioned substantially beneath the workpiece and arranged both to receive fluid from the first collector 19 and to catch fluid that drips from the workpiece itself, the second collector being connected to a pump 13 which returns the fluid from the second collector to the dielectric bath.

摘要: An electro-discharge machining apparatus includes an electrode carrier on which there are mounted a plurality of separate electrodes. A circuit for each electrode applies a high voltage discharge initiating pulse followed by an extended lower voltage discharge sustaining pulse to the associated electrode. A gap voltage sampling circuit samples the voltage between the electrode and the workpiece and a "low wins" circuit passes a signal representing the lowest gap voltage as a feedback signal for a servo-actuator which moves the electrode holder towards and away from the workpiece.

摘要: Electrical discharge apparatus for producing on the surface of an electrically conductive workpiece a textured or matt finish comprises a plurality of electrodes each connectable to an electrical power source and each carried by a head which in use of the apparatus can be moved linearly of the workpiece with the electrodes each spaced at a predetermined distance from the workpiece surface. A characteristics of the voltage conditions present within the gap existing between the electrodes and the workpiece surface is monitored and, the head is moved towards and away from the workpiece surface to maintain the monitored characteristic within predetermined limits. Dielectric fluid is retained within the gap existing between the electrodes and the workpiece surface, and a series of discrete electrical discharges is promoted between each electrode and the adjacent workpiece surface to cause particles to be removed from the workpiece surface and produce a textured or matt finish thereto.

摘要: A belt grinding is integrated with an electroerosion machine for contouring the working surface of a mill roll and providing a texture thereon. The belt grinder can superfinish the roll and remove peaks in the surface without significantly affecting the mean surface roughness produced by the electroerosion.

摘要: A method and apparatus for electric-discharge texturing (EDT) ends of a roll rotatably supported about a roll axis uses electrodes mounted on a head. The head is movable in a direction parallel to the roll axis. The electrodes are movable in a direction transverse to the roll axis to maintain a desired spacing with respect to the surface of the roll. Each of the electrodes is positioned at a sparking position along the direction transverse to the roll axis to effect sparking with the surface of the roll. The head is moved in a direction from the center portion of the roll towards the first end of the roll along the direction parallel to the roll axis such that each of the electrodes traverse across the surface of the first end of the roll. Each of the electrodes is then positioned at a retracted position along the direction transverse to the roll axis as each of the electrodes passes off the first end of the roll. The head is then moved back in a direction from the first end towards the second end after all of the electrodes have traversed across the surface of the first end of the roll such that each of the electrodes traverse across the surfaces of the first end and the center portion of the roll. The process is then repeated at the second end. Because each of the electrodes traverse across the surface of the roll, the roll profile deformation across the roll is consistent.

摘要: An electrical discharge apparatus comprises a plurality of electrodes mounted on an electrode carrier and spaced from a workpiece surface to define a gap across which a train of electrical pulses are transmitted. Dielectric fluid is present within the gap and controlled additions of solid particles are made to the dielectric fluid, with the particles being of a material of different electrical conductivity and/or permittivity to that or those of the dielectric fluid. The concentration by volume of the particles within the dielectric fluid lies within the range 0.05% to 7.0% and the size of the majority of the added particles is in excess of 7 microns. The particles are of a material having a relatively high electrical conductivity, e.g., graphite or metallic particles. Alternatively, the particles are formed from a material having good electrical insulating properties, e.g., glass, ceramic or certain metallic oxides.
