    Abstract: A valve arrangement is provided for supplying air to a combustion chamber of an internal combustion engine, the valve arrangement including a first valve, the first valve including a first valve head, a first valve stem and an internal cavity, which is partly located in the first valve stem and open towards a lower surface of the first valve head, a valve guide arranged to surround a portion of the first valve stem such that the first valve stem is movable in the valve guide along a longitudinal direction between an upper, closed position of the valve, and a lower, open position, in which open position air may be supplied to the combustion chamber past the first valve head, the valve guide including an air passage allowing supply of additional air to the combustion chamber via the internal cavity in the first valve, when the first valve is in its closed position. The valve arrangement includes a guide leakage preventing means for preventing liquid from leaking from a region externally of the first valve stem to the valve guide air passage.

    Abstract: An outwardly-opening gas-exchange valve assembly for an internal combustion engine. The valve assembly includes a port in a firing chamber in an engine head, the port having a valve seat on a side opposite from the firing chamber. A piston-shaped poppet valve head slides in a bore in the engine head for mating with the valve seat to occlude passage of gas across the valve seat. Withdrawal of the poppet valve head from the seat opens the firing chamber to communication with an intake or exhaust manifold runner in the engine head. The poppet valve head may be actuated by an overcenter lever arrangement actuated selectively by hydraulic pressure or mechanical actuation. In a preferred embodiment, OO intake and exhaust valves are radially arranged in a hemispherical fire deck and may include an adjustable pitch helical channel to induce swirl to the incoming gas.

    Abstract: One embodiment of the present invention provides a poppet valve offering an increased valve area, comprising an outer valve head having an outer valve port and an inner valve head having an inner valve port. The inner valve head is rotatable relative to the outer valve head to align the inner and outer valve ports, thereby increasing the effective valve area of the poppet valve. The path created by aligning the inner and outer valve ports can be designed to mix air flowing through the poppet valve. Another embodiment of the present invention provides a valve guide containing a poppet valve having a guide pin, wherein the guide pin rests within a groove in the valve guide. As the poppet valve moves through the valve guide, the groove controls movement of the guide pin and causes the poppet valve to rotate relative to the valve guide.

    Abstract: A valve assembly includes a block with a chamber formed therein and a port for accessing the chamber. A fluid inlet passage and a fluid exhaust passage are formed through the block and communicate with the port. A main valve includes a head which is reciprocated into and out of engagement with a lower valve seat formed on a portion of the port. An auxiliary valve includes a head which is reciprocated through the port between a first position below the port and a second position above the port. A hollow cylindrical valve includes a central passage therethrough for fluid flow, and is disposed for reciprocating movement into and out of engagement with an upper valve seat formed on a portion of the port, the cylindrical valve closing the inlet passage when moved to the engaged position. The cylindrical valve passage is in communication with the exhaust passage throughout its movement. Apparatus is provided for sequentially moving each of the main valve, auxiliary valve, and cylindrical valve to sequentially introduce air from the inlet passage through the port and into the chamber, close the port from all fluid flow, and exhaust fluid from the chamber through the port and through the exhaust passage.
