    摘要: Disclosed is lubrication for a slow-running two-stroke engine, especially marine diesel engines. The lubrication uses Swirl Injection Principle by locating the lubricant injectors closer to the TDC than ⅕ of the full stroke of the piston, which is closer than in typical marine diesel engines. This can be achieved by reconstructing cylinder liners or by adding new mounting holes to the cylinder. In case that such reconstruction is not possible, an improvement of SIP principles can also be achieved by directing the spray towards the TDC or to a location on the cylinder liner closer to the TDC as compared to the location of the SIP valves, for example under an angle of more than 30 degrees or even more than 60 degrees when measured from a plane normal to the cylinder axis.

    摘要: A combined oil filter and restrictor assembly is disclosed having an oil flow restrictor interposed between first and second filters so that, irrespective of the direction of oil flow through the restrictor, debris cannot enter a small diameter bore 32 in a body of the restrictor thereby reducing the likelihood of restrictor blockage. The combined oil filter and restrictor assembly includes a metal threaded member that enables the combined oil filter and restrictor assembly to be easily and quickly assembled to or removed from a component such as a cylinder head of a variable displacement engine. The combined oil filter and restrictor assembly can be used to provide a restricted flow of oil from oil supply passages to signal oil passages used for controlling the operation of deactivatable hydraulic lash adjusters so as to purge the signal oil passages when the deactivatable hydraulic lash adjusters are not deactivated.

    摘要: Internal combustion engines having a split crankshaft are disclosed. The engines may also have non-circular, preferably rectangular, cross-section pistons and cylinders. The pistons may include a skirt with a field of pockets that provide a ringless, non-lubricated, seal equivalent. The pistons also may have a domed piston head with depressions thereon to facilitate the movement of air/charge in the cylinder. The engines also may use multi-stage poppet valves in lieu of conventional poppet valves. The engines may use the pumping motion of the engine piston to supercharge the cylinder with air/charge. The engines also may operate in an inverted orientation in which the piston is closer to the local gravitationally dominant terrestrial body's center of gravity at top dead center position than at bottom dead center position.

At least portions of the coolant passages and lubricant passages are disposed adjacent to and about the bores so as to cool the bores. The coolant passage portion extends over a first lengthwise portion of the bores and the lubricant passage portion extending over a second lengthwise portion of the bores. The first and second lengthwise portions are longitudinally spaced apart along the bores.
