摘要: Microsized devices operable to emit neutrons in a selective manner are provided. The devices are configured so that the rate of neutron emission can be varied, either actively or passively. The devices comprise an a-particle emitting material and a neutron producing target material that when aligned and/or positioned a predetermined distance apart emit neutrons. The rate of neutron emission can be slowed or stopped by taking the materials out of alignment and/or attenuating the α-particles being directed toward the neutron producing target material.

摘要: Nucleic acid delivery vehicles for delivering nucleic acid, e.g., for RNAi to cells that are typically refractory to RNAi by using extracellular vesicles (EVs) from cultured beetle cells as delivery vehicles. Instead of using high levels of long dsRNA and transfection reagents to accomplish suppression of an mRNA target in cells that don't respond to treatment with naked dsRNA, this approach applies the dsRNA to cultured beetle cells, collects nucleic-acid loaded EVs from the culture, then treats our target cells with the intracellularly loaded EVs, which results in significant enhancement of the RNAi response and greater suppression of transcript levels.

摘要: An electrosurgical device (10) is provided that is operable to deliver microwave energy within a controlled angular expanse to cause targeted tissue ablation. The device (10) comprises a blocking or reflecting material such as cylindrical members (34) that are laterally spaced from the antenna (20) that is operable to emit the microwave energy. The reflecting material creates regions in and/or surrounding the device into which sensors (51), such as thermocouple wires, may be placed to monitor a condition associated with the device or the patient's body.
