摘要: A reflex-reflecting structure in which glass beads, preferably within the size range of 25 to 250 microns and having a refractive index of at least 1.8, are hemispherically surrounded by a binder containing specularly reflective nacreous pigment particles which have maximum dimensional sizes falling within the range of eight to 30 microns and thicknesses within the range of 25 to 200 millimicrons. Pigmented color layers and adhesive layers may be provided over the binder layer.

摘要: A longitudinal-direction laser. The laser device comprises a source of electrons and a light resonant cavity which includes a direct band-gap semiconductor crystal having a pair of spaced, opposing, smooth faces. When a beam of electrons of at least a predetermined energy and current density is impinged upon one of the crystal faces, laser emission produced within an active region of the crystal is emitted from at least one of the crystal faces in a direction generally longitudinal to the direction of the beam of electrons. When laser emission is produced, the active region depth is less than the crystal thickness in the direction normal to the opposing faces.

摘要: A TWO-PART BACKING COMPOSITION USEFUL FOR BACKING METAL SHELLS COMPRISES PART A AND PART B WHEREIN; PART A COMPRISES A PLIABLE, WORKABLE, THERMOCONDUCTIVE, PARTICULATE METAL AGGREGATE OF METAL PARTICLES HAVING AN AVERAGE SIZE OF BETWEEN 60 TO 400 MESH; FROM 0.2 TO 18 PARTS BY WEIGHT OF A HEAT ACTIVATED MONVOLATILE BINDER PER 100 PARTS BY WEIGHT OF METAL PARTICLES AND AN EFFECTIVE AMOUNT OF A CATALYST FOR THE THERMOSETTING RESIN OF PART B; AND PART B COMPRISES A THERMOSETTING RESIN. THE METAL AGGREGATE CAN BE CURED TO A RIGID POROUS STRUCTURE WHICH IS THEREAFTER FILLED WITH THE THERMOSETTING RESIN AND THE ENTIRE COMBINATION CURED TO A STRONG, STRUCTURALLY STABLE BACKING.

摘要: Sheet material coated with heat-hardenable, tacky adhesive to form adhesive tapes, bonding films and simiar products. The tacky adhesive layer provides for temporarily adhering one structure to another at ordinary temperatures and can be subsequently heathardened to a strong, permanent bond. Another aspect of the invention relates to the tacky, heat-hardenable adhesive compositions themselves.

摘要: A fluid operated surgical tool having a body to which variously configured object-engaging elements may be removably attached for gripping, cutting or perforating bone, tissue or other structures. Housed within the body is an assembly, responsive to fluids under pressure, for operating the object-engaging elements. A fluid regulating valve assembly is provided for precisely controlling the flow of fluids to the pressureresponsive assembly, so that the surgeon may deftly and accurately control the movement of the object-engaging elements. The fluid regulating valve assembly comprises a valve seat through which fluid flows to the pressure-responsive assembly, a valve, an operator control for disengaging the valve from the valve seat, and an automatic pressure-balancing mechanism for moving the valve seat into reengagement with the valve to stop the flow of fluid therethrough when pressures acting on the pressure-responsive assembly reach predetermined levels.

摘要: A portable, fully automatic instrument for at any given time determining precisely a person''s cumulative noise exposure as a percentage of permissible noise exposure is disclosed. The instrument includes a microphone for sensing sound levels, a sound level measuring circuit, an A weighting circuit, a rectifying circuit, a variable-gain ratio amplifier, a noise threshold level circuit for removing from consideration the noise levels below a predetermined threshold level, a converter output circuit, and a readout device for indicating the cumulative percentage of allowable noise exposure that has been experienced. The instrument converts incident sound level pressures in excess of the predetermined threshold level for the time periods of occurrence of the various sound levels into a representation indicative of a cumulative percentage of permissible noise exposure. A method for sensing sound levels above a predetermined threshold, providing a continuous summation of the sound levels for their respective time periods of occurrence, and conversion of the resultant summation to a cumulative percentage of permissible noise exposure is also disclosed.
