    摘要： Digital compressed codes, associated with advertisements enable a user to selectively record additional information, which would be broadcast on a television channel at a later time. The advertisement could be print advertisement or broadcast advertisement on television or radio. The user enters the digital code (I code) associated with an advertisement into a unit with a decoding means which automatically converts the code into CTL (channel, time and length). The unit within a twenty four hour period activates a VCR to record information on the television channel at the right time for the proper length of time. The decoded channel, time and length information can be communicated directly to a VCR and used by the VCR directly to automatically activate the VCR to record a given television information broadcast corresponding to the communicated channel, time and length. Alternately, the channel, time and length information can be decoded directly in a remote control unit and only start record, stop record and channel selection commands sent to the VCR at the appropriate times. Algorithms for decoding the I codes can be a function of time to ensure security of the decoding method. A method is included for use of the I codes with cable channels.

    摘要： A method and system enable users to purchase goods and services at an optimal price using a reverse auction process. The preferred approach incorporates two phases: first, the process determines the most favorable advertised price for the item sought, based on a search and review of multiple vendors offering the item for sale. Second, the process negotiates a sale price lower than the most favorable advertised price by soliciting bids from multiple vendors of the item, where each bid represents an offer for sale of the item at a price lower than the most favorable advertised price. The purchaser selects a bid received from the pool of vendors, and the process generates a purchase order to the vendor corresponding to the selected bid for the item.

    摘要： A smart agent (SA) is provided which resides locally in a local client device and by iterative means integrates the habit, statistics and psycho-demographic information of a user to infer the user's preferences. The SA may also utilize the preferences to filter information delivered to the local device. The invention further discloses a means of collecting, combining, integrating and inferring information from the user to arrive at a psycho-demographic profile of the user, and a means of utilizing such psycho-demographic profile to select or filter information delivered to the user, thereby achieving targeting. The invention also discloses a means of classifying and identifying the information delivered so that it can be matched, filtered or selected.

    摘要： A method for recording on video tape and indexing programs carried by a television signal. The title of some, but not all, of the programs is embedded real time in the television signal. A video tape cassette is loaded in a VCR for recording. A data file corresponding to a plurality of television program listings is stored in memory. The data file includes the channel and start time of each program listing, and the title if available. The program listings are displayed on a video monitor. One of the displayed program listings is selected for recording. The data corresponding to the program listing selected for recording is transferred from the data file to a VCR recording stack so the VCR records the program represented by the program listing selected for recording. A directory of programs recorded on the video tape, including program titles and tape locations, is created. If the title of the program being recorded is embedded real time in the television signal, it is added to the directory as the program title. If the title of the program being recorded is not embedded real time in the television signal, the title from the data file corresponding to the program listing selected for recording is added to the directory as the program title. The tape location of the video tape in the VCR at the beginning of the recording of the program represented by the program listing selected for recording is measured and added to the directory.
