Abstract:
Memory systems and techniques for efficiently storing data are described herein. A memory system may include a memory string of multiple dynamic memory cells, with each cell having an access transistor connecting a data-input-line to a capacitive element, an output transistor connected to the capacitive element, with the output transistors of the multiple cells having channels connected in series forming a stacked-gate transistor, and a read-select-line connected to the capacitive element, where a change in voltage on the read-select line controls voltage on the capacitive element. The memory system also includes a read-string-select-line connecting in series the channels of the output transistors of the cells, and a data-output-line connected to the stacked-gate transistor, such that to access data stored in the cells, the read-select-line of the cells is set to a neutral level to cause the output of the output transistor of the cells to be detectable on the data-output-line.
Abstract:
Methods and systems are provided for using a hybrid-distribution system to identify relevant documents based on a search query. A group of documents is assigned to a particular segment. The group of documents is indexed both by atom and by document to form a reverse index and a forward index. Both indexes are divided amongst each node in that segment so that each node is responsible for storing and accessing a different portion of both the reverse and forward indexes. The reverse index portion is accessed on each of a first set of nodes to identify a first set of documents that is relevant to a particular search query. Document identifications associated with the first set of documents are used to identify a second set of nodes that access their forward index portions to limit the number of relevant documents to a second set of documents.
Abstract:
An optical device comprising a quantum dot provided in a resonant confinement structure, an output from said confinement structure and a pulsed excitation source for said quantum dot, wherein the quantum dot is configured to allow the emission of photons having a first energy in response to a pulse from said excitation source, said resonant confinement structure providing optical confinement, the first energy being different to the resonant energy of the resonant confinement structure, the optical device further comprising a timing unit, said timing unit being configured to select photons which have been emitted from the quantum dot due to excitation by a pulse, the timing unit selecting photons emitted after the duration of the pulse which caused the emission of the photons.
Abstract:
The present technology provides an apparatus and a method for transmitting data via two or more FM signals in an interference avoiding manner. The apparatus comprises at least two FM transmitters. Each FM transmitter is configured to transmit a FM signal on a particular FM channel characterized by a certain carrier frequency that includes data and optionally one or more corresponding alternative frequencies (AFs). The apparatus further includes at least two receivers for receiving incoming electromagnetic radiation (EMR). At least one of the receivers is configured to receive incoming EMR associated with at least one of the FM channels, and another is configured to receive incoming EMR at least at frequencies outside of the FM channels. The controller is configured to separately control activation and deactivation of the FM transmitters and determine the carrier frequencies and the one or more AFs based upon incoming EMR.
Abstract:
An article having a flow-through substrate having open channels defined by porous walls, wherein the flow-through substrate includes alumina; and a CO2 sorbent disposed on the flow-through substrate, wherein the CO2 sorbent impregnates the porous walls of the flow-through substrate. Methods of making the article, its use for CO2 capture, and methods for regenerating the article for further use are also disclosed.
Abstract:
A system and method are provided for managing messages in conversational-type messaging applications. To provide continuity across all conversations with a particular recipient, an existing or not-yet-created 1:1 conversation can be populated with 1:Many messages that include the same recipient in the list of addressees. In this way, any 1:1 chat or conversation with a particular recipient will contain all correspondences with that recipient, regardless of whether the message was sent or received in a 1:1 or 1:Many context. As such, the user has access to all information that has been exchanged with that recipient in one messaging screen to avoid the need to traverse multiple messaging screens to obtain the context or information related to the recipient that the user requires.
Abstract:
An engine preheating system supports starting industrial and/or diesel engines in cold weather, eliminating the need for cold weather idling. The system preheats the engine coolant, bringing the entire machine up to a warm starting condition. This provides good lubrication and immediate heat availability. The system is fully portable and does not rely on commercial power, operable at any location. The system utilizes propane fuel, which is widely available. The propane fuel burns quietly and cleanly as opposed to fuel oil. The system includes numerous safety features, such as flow indicators and modern microprocessor technology to ensure safe operation.

Abstract:
According to embodiments described in the specification, a method, system and apparatus for controlling a display are provided. The method comprises maintaining, in a memory of the portable electronic device, one or more related messages; maintaining, in the memory, at least one of a plurality of labels in association with at least one of the related messages; determining, for each of the plurality of labels, a state based on the number of related messages with which the respective label is associated; controlling the display to generate a representation of the state for each of the labels; receiving an indication of a potential change in at least one of the label states; and, responsive to receiving the indication, updating the determined label states and controlling the display to generate an updated representation.
