Abstract:
Systems and methods are provided for making a hard pack cigarette package composed of a transparent material that includes an inner frame that is also composed of a transparent material. The package is assembled using a hot-melt adhesive material to bind the package together as well as to bind the inner frame insert and a foil wrapped assemblage of smoking articles to the package. The hot-melt adhesive material is applied by an electronically controlled hot-melt adhesive applicator working in conjunction with a uniform contrast roller.
Abstract:
Iridescent magnetic pigments are produced by depositing a ferrite layer and a second metal oxide layer in succession on a substrate. The substrate may be platy and is coated with the ferrite, which is then coated with the second metal oxide layer to provide interference color effect. At least one of the layers is magnetic. The magnetic pigment may be used in coatings such as paints.
Abstract:
Monoclonal antibody reagents that recognize the SARS-coronavirus (SARS-HCoV) are needed urgently. In this report we describe the development and immunochemical characterization of mAbs against the SARS-HCoV based upon their specificity, binding requirements, and biological activity. Initial screening by ELISA, using highly purified virus as the coating antigen, resulted in the selection of seventeen mAbs. Five mAbs exhibited Western immunoblot reactivity with the denatured spike protein, of which two demonstrated the ability to neutralize SARS-HCoV in vitro. Another four Western immunoblot-negative mAbs also neutralize the virus. These antibodies will be useful for the development of diagnostic tests, pathogenicity and vaccine studies.
Abstract:
A hard pack cigarette package includes an inner frame with fold-over tabs at the top of the inner frame shoulders that overlap an opposing flap in the hinged lid of the package. When the lid is opened or closed, the tabs and opposing flap disengage with an audible click sound. The force required to disengage the tabs and flap help to retain the lid in a secured closed position.
Abstract:
Compounds are disclosed of the formula in which R3 is C8 to C24 hydrocarbon or the residue of misoprostol. The compounds are useful for treating rhinitis and asthma, particularly by inhalation, and for treating inflammation, particularly by local or topical administration.
Abstract:
An assembled container for smoking articles includes an outer sleeve that includes a front wall, a rear wall, a right side wall, and a left side wall. Packets of cigarettes are positioned within the outer sleeve. For example, two packets, each containing ten cigarettes, are positioned within the outer sleeve. The packets, and the outer sleeve, may include mechanisms that interact during movement of the individual packets within the outer sleeve.
Abstract:
The present invention provides to a humanized monoclonal antibody having immunostimulatory effects. This antibody binds specifically to B lymphoblastoid cells, induces proliferation and activation of peripheral blood lymphocytes, particularly T cells, and is capable of eliciting an anti-tumor effect upon administration to subjects suffering from cancer.
Abstract:
This invention provides novel inhibitors of the enzyme D-amino acid oxidase as well as pharmaceutical compositions including the compounds of the invention. The invention also provides methods for the treatment and prevention of neurological disorders, such as neuropsychiatric and neurodegenerative diseases, as well as pain, ataxia and convulsion. The compounds of the invention have the general structure: wherein A is NH or S. Q is a member selected from CR1 and N. X and Y are members independently selected from O, S, CR2, N and NH. R1, R2 and R4 are members independently selected from H and F, provided that at least one member selected from R1, R2 and R4 is F. R6 is a member selected from O−X+ and OH, wherein X+ is a positive ion, which is a member selected from inorganic positive ions and organic positive ions.
Abstract:
The present invention relates to the significant functional role of several C. elegans genes and of their corresponding gene products in spindle formation or microtubule function during cell division that could be identified by means of RNA-mediated interference (RNAi) and to the identification and isolation of functional orthologs of said genes including all biologically functional derivatives thereof The invention further relates to the use of said genes and gene products (including said orthologs) in the development or isolation of anti-proliferative agents, particularly their use in appropriate screening assays, and their use for diagnosis and treatment of proliferative and other diseases. In particular, the invention relates to the use of small interfering RNAs derived from said genes for the treatment of proliferative diseases.
