摘要： An automatic metering information collection system and method in which a remotely controllable line multi-interface at a customer's local multi-interfacing multiport switch responds to an interface selection message from a metering information collection computer at a utility service provider location to connect the hybrid digital/analog customer telephone line to a selected one of a plurality of available interfaces compatible with the type of interface employed by the meter until the metering information is conveyed to the collection computer and then automatically returns the customer's line to a default interface used by the other types of telephonic equipment on the customer's line.

摘要： A personnel carrying vehicle comprising a self propelled, steerable body, a telescoping mast attached to and extending upwardly from said body, and a personnel compartment attached to the mast and provided with a rail member that extends from the mast and around the sides. A pair of gate members, which are pivotally attached to the rail member and to the floor of the compartment, are movable from a closed position to an open position wherein said gate members extend into the compartment. The mast extends upwardly and forwardly of the body at an angle of approximately five degrees to the top of the rail; this provides the operator with unobstructed access to anything above the top edge of the rail, and the forward tilt of the mast enlarges the upper portion of the compartment, near the waist of the operator, thus accommodating the operator comfortably without increasing the length of the vehicle; it also causes the center of gravity of the vehicle to move forward, toward the center of the vehicle, as the compartment is raised. The vehicle is driven by electric motors which are located under the operator compartment and attached to the drive wheels through gear trains to permit the floor of the compartment to be positioned as close to the ground level as possible. Control handles are mounted within the personnel compartment, with one handle controlling steering and the other handle controlling traction. Sensors ensure the operator's hands are on both control handles and both feet are properly positioned on the floor before the vehicle can be moved or the platform raised; this ensures a four point stance, providing for operator stability and that the operator's hands and feet are within the operator's compartment anytime the vehicle is being moved or during lifting or lowering operations. Gate interlock switches are provided to restrict or prevent travel of the vehicle under certain conditions. A load deck is provided on the body of the vehicle on the opposite side of the mast from the personnel compartment. Also, a load tray may be mounted to the telescoping mast to move vertically with the compartment. Rail guides may be mounted to the outside of the vehicle to facilitate entry into and operations within narrow aisles.

摘要： The system of the invention consists of a central office service unit (COSU) connected to a plurality of switching systems via dedicated telemetry trunks or a common channel signaling network such as the CCS7 network. The switching systems are connected to a plurality of inbound-only TIUs located on the customer premise that are in turn connected to customer devices such as utility meters, appliances, security systems or the like. The TIUs are inbound-only that can originate calls but cannot answer calls initiated by the controlling entity. A controlling entity, such as a utility, is connected to one of the switching systems over a customer line such that the controlling entity can be connected to any TIU hosted by the switching systems. The controlling entity requests that an alerting tone be sent by the COSU to a desired TIU. The COSU, as is known in the art, delivers an alert tone through a suppressed ringing connection to the TIU that does not audibly ring the customer's telephone. The TIU does not "answer" this tone by going off hook such that no connection is established and the telemetry call is taken down. While the TIU does not answer the alert tone, the tone alerts the TIU to perform one or more functions such as retrieve data from a utility meter, check the status of an appliance or the like. As an alternative to the alert tone, a digital signal can be transmitted to alert the TIU. After performing the desired function, the TIU is programmed to call the controlling entity and a connection is established between the TIU and the controlling entity. The TIU can then transmit the results of the function to the controlling entity and the controlling entity can download further instructions, programs or the like to the TIU.

摘要： The invention uses a connection having a predetermined priority, switched through the existing call processing switch fabric, to connect between customer premise equipment (CPE). The connection is implemented such that the connection is disconnected if an incoming call to one of the CPEs or an outgoing request for service from one of the CPEs is made that has a priority higher than the predetermined priority. If the connection is disconnected due to a request for higher priority service, the system of the invention can automatically reestablish the connection after the higher priority service call has ended.

摘要： An overhead guard assembly for use on an materials handling vehicle provides the operator with protection against falling objects. The assembly includes first and second frame members supported by the vehicle and positioned on either side of the operator, and a plate member placed between and secured to the frame members over the head of the operator. A plurality of openings are formed in the plate member to provide the operator a clear view upwardly through said overhead guard. The openings in said overhead guard are arranged in rows and a plurality of strengthening ribs are placed in the plate member between the rows and extend from one frame member to the other. The strengthening ribs are formed by reverse bending the plate member to provide a rib surface orientated at an angle of approximately 50.degree. with respect to the horizontal to provide minimum visual obstruction to the operator.

摘要： A stationary exercise apparatus intended to simulate the action of pedaling a bicycle includes a base and a flywheel mounted on the base for rotation about a vertical axis. The flywheel is coupled in driven relationship to a pair of pedal cranks mounted on the base. The pedal cranks are mounted for rotation about a horizontal axis as in a conventional bicycle. Preferably, the flywheel is mounted directly below the pedals on a shaft whose upper end is formed to be a worm, the worm being driven by a drive gear attached to the pedal cranks. The orientation and location of the flywheel add to the stability of the exercise device as well as aiding in the outward appearance of the device.
