摘要： The invention uses a connection having a predetermined priority, switched through the existing call processing switch fabric, to connect between customer premise equipment (CPE). The connection is implemented such that the connection is disconnected if an incoming call to one of the CPEs or an outgoing request for service from one of the CPEs is made that has a priority higher than the predetermined priority. If the connection is disconnected due to a request for higher priority service, the system of the invention can automatically reestablish the connection after the higher priority service call has ended.

摘要： A method for connecting a system utilizing message-based synchronization with an external system. The message-based system includes a plurality of nodes interchanging signals containing synchronization messages with information about the priority of the respective signal in the internal synchronization hierarchy of the system. For the external system to be able to utilize the message-based system as well as possible with respect to timing, synchronization status data in the internal format of the external system is transmitted from the interface node of the system utilizing message-based synchronization to the external system. The synchronization status data is converted from the message-based synchronization signature (18c) transmitted by the interface node in such a manner that the level in the internal synchronization hierarchy of the external system as indicated by the synchronization status transmittd to the external system rises or falls corresponding to the rise and, correspondingly, fall of a predetermined magnitude of the level indicated by the message-based synchronization signature.

摘要： A token ring local area network integrates voice, data and image information over a single cable with voice packets having a higher priority than non-voice packets, and with all the voice packets having the same length and the maximum non-voice packet length being related to the voice packet length and to the maximum number of terminals in the network so as to ensure real-time voice reception. Call processing functions are fully distributed among the voice terminals without the use of a centralized processing unit or a centralized data base. Conference calls are effected by each party transmitting conference packets to a single destination party, with conference packets having a unique packet format wherein a single packet incorporates voice information from plural terminals so as to minimize the number of packets traversing the ring. The token ring includes a plurality of interconnected stations or node coupling units, each of which is, in turn, connected to a plurality of nodes or terminals in a star-wired configuration, with each terminal having connected thereto one or more application devices, such as a digital feature telephone, a video camera, or a PC. One or more of the node coupling units may be connected to a bridge for providing connection to another token ring, or to a gateway for providing connection to external networks, such as a PBX, a telephone central office, or a host computer.

摘要： A queueing system in a call center is adapted to queue voice mails as well as live telephone calls. In a preferred embodiment the calls include both connection-oriented switched telephony (COST) calls and Data Network Telephony (DNT) calls. Callers are enabled to leave voice mail as an alternative to waiting, and records of the voice mails are queued, preferably in the same queue processing the live calls. In some embodiments the call center is enabled to process e-mails, video mails and facsimile messages as well as live calls and voice mail messages, and all types of multimedia communication can be queued in the same queue according to prestored routing rules and priority rules.

A plurality of interrupts are identified based on changes in the status bits, each interrupt having a priority. Selected interrupts are stored in an interrupt queue in an order determined by the priority of the interrupts.
