    Abstract: A method for operating a user equipment (UE) includes detecting a failure of a first link between the UE and an access node, and based thereon, detecting a second link between the UE and the access node, sending, to the access node, a beam failure recovery request (BFRQ) on one or more physical random access channel (PRACH) resources associated a third link conveying a reference signal, wherein the third link and the second link are quasi co-located (QCLed), wherein the BFRQ includes a group identifier associated with a UE group including the UE, and monitoring one or more PRACH response opportunities associated with the one or more PRACH resources for a beam failure recovery response (BFRP).

    Abstract: An embodiment method defines a demodulation reference signal (DMRS) pattern for transmitting DMRSs for rank 3 or rank 4 transmissions. The DMRS pattern specifies 12 REs in total per physical resource block (PRB) for carrying DMRSs on three or four antenna ports in antenna ports 7-14 for rank 3 or rank 4 transmissions. DMRS settings for transmitting DMRS according to the DMRS pattern may be specified using a downlink control information table.

    Abstract: A method is provided for radio link failure (RLF) operations based on link failure recovery (LR), beam failure recovery (BFR) and radio link monitoring (RLM), and for interactions between modules for RLF, BFR, and RLM, and for integration of indications. A device may measure a reference signal received over one or more communication paths of a radio link to estimate the link quality for radio link operations (BFR/LR) and RLM. Based on configured criteria, the device may generate RLM or BFR/LR indications based on an assessed link quality metric or a link recovery operation status, combine or filter the indications and metrics from multiple paths of each module or from multiple modules, and send the filtered or combined results from a physical layer of the device to assist the RLF operations.
