Abstract:
A method for randomizing data to mitigate false VFO detection is described. In one embodiment, such a method includes simultaneously receiving multiple input data streams. Each input data stream is associated with a different track on a magnetic tape medium. The input data streams are simultaneously scrambled to produce multiple randomized data streams. The input data streams are scrambled such that different bit patterns are produced in the randomized data streams even where corresponding bit patterns in the input data streams are identical. The randomized data streams are simultaneously written to their associated data tracks on the magnetic tape medium.

Abstract:
A target space ratio of a monitor pattern on a substrate for inspection is determined to be different from a ratio of 1:1. A range of space ratios in a library is determined to include the target space ratio and not include a space ratio of 1:1. The monitor pattern is formed on a film to be processed by performing predetermined processes on the substrate for inspection. Sizes of the monitor pattern are measured. The sizes of the monitor pattern are converted into sizes of a pattern of the film to be processed having a space ratio of 1:1, and processing conditions of the predetermined processes are compensated for based on the sizes of the converted pattern of the film to be processed. After that, the predetermined processes are performed on a wafer under the compensated conditions to form a pattern having a space ratio of 1:1 on the film to be processed.
Abstract:
A method for integrating data and header protection in tape drives includes receiving an array of data organized into rows and columns. The array is extended to include one or more headers for each row of data in the array. The method provides two dimensions of error correction code (ECC) protection for the data in the array and a single dimension of ECC protection for the headers in the array. A corresponding apparatus is also disclosed herein.
Abstract:
A device, method, and program are provided to prevent an increase of the probability of erroneous correction for a burst error having a length exceeding detection capability even if high correction capability is selected for a random error. In one embodiment, an apparatus corrects errors in a product code block including C1 codes in a row direction and C2 codes in a column direction. First, a C1 decoder performs C1 correction for each of an even C1 including even-numbered bytes in the C1 code and an odd C1 including odd-numbered bytes in the C1 code. Next, a C2 decoder performs erasure correction in C2 correction in the case where any one of the C1 correction results for the even C1 and the odd C1 is correction failure, and where one of the results is the 3-byte correction while the other one is the correction failure or the 3-byte correction.
Abstract:
A method to adjust the orientation of a read head comprising a first read element and a second read element, wherein the first read element and the second read element are separated by a distance, wherein the method moves a sequential information storage medium adjacent to the read head, determines a skew angle for the sequential information storage medium with respect to the read head using the first read element and the second read element, and encodes that skew angle in a computer readable medium.
Abstract:
There is provided an information processing apparatus which includes a content collection unit which collects content, an output control unit which simultaneously provides main content and sub-content, and a content group creation control unit which sets a creation logic and an algorithm by using the algorithm based on the creation logic, a content group in which content to be recommended for the user is assembled from a plurality of content collected by the content collection unit. The content group creation control unit creates a plurality of content groups. The plurality of content groups include a content group created based on a creation logic related to the main content and a content group created based on a creation logic related to the sub content. The output control unit causes the plurality of content groups to be displayed to the user.
Abstract:
An apparatus and method for reading out data recoded on a tape with a read head is provided. A command processing unit receives a request for reading out old data behind EOD of new data. A channel input/output unit receives, data read out with a read head and a buffer managing unit receives this data. A header information determining unit determines whether this data includes header information of the old data. If it is determined that this data includes the header information of the old data, a data set determining unit determines whether a data set is extractable from this data. If it is determined that data set is not extractable, a move signal output unit outputs a signal for moving the read head in a direction of the new data.
Abstract:
Conventional C2 coding and interleaving for multi-track data tape in LTO-¾ do not support recording data onto a number of concurrent tracks which is not a power of two. Higher-rate longer C2 codes, which do not degrade error rate performance, are provided. An adjustable format and interleaving scheme accommodates future tape drives in which the number of concurrent tracks is not necessarily a power of two. A data set is segmented into a plurality of unencoded subdata sets and parity bytes are generated for each row and column. The parameters of the C2 code include N2 as the least common multiple of the number of possible tracks to which codeword objects are to be written. COs are formed from N2 C1 codewords, mapped onto a logical data track according to information within headers of the CO and modulation encoded into synchronized COs which are written to the tape.
Abstract:
For writing data to multi-track tape, a received data set is received and segmented into unencoded subdata sets, each comprising an array having K2 rows and K1 columns. For each unencoded subdata set, N1−K1 C1-parity bytes are generated for each row and N2−K2 C2-parity bytes are generated for each column. The C1 and C2 parity bytes are appended to the ends of the row and column, respectively, to form encoded C1 and C2 codewords, respectively. All of the C1 codewords per data set are endowed with a specific codeword header to form a plurality of partial codeword objects (PCOs). Each PCO is mapped onto a logical data track according to information within the header. On each logical data track, adjacent PCOs are merged to form COs which are modulation encoded and mapped into synchronized COs. Then T synchronized COs are written simultaneously to the data tape where T is the number of concurrent active tracks on the data tape.
