摘要: A supporting structure for a flower box or the like fits over the top edge of a wall, room divider, or similar device. The supporting structure includes an elongated plate having a plurality of spaced parallel slots therein. A pair of L-shaped members, each having a first flange which may be slipped through and depend below any one of the slots, so that the space between the two first flanges fits over and embraces the top edge of a room divider or the like. The other flange of each L-shaped member lays on top of the elongated plate. In one embodiment, the weight of the flower box holds the other flange in place. The dependent first flanges have a clamping device associated therewith to secure the structure to the wall. In another embodiment, the bottom of a U-shaped member is secured to an elongated plate, with no adjustment of the space between a pair of flanges formed by open arms of the U-shaped members. This other embodiment is designed for mounting on walls having a known and fixed thickness.

摘要: A masking field network F.sub.2, is characterized through systematic computer simulations serves or a content addressable memory. Masking field network F.sub.2 receives input patterns from an adaptive filter F.sub.1 .fwdarw.F.sub.2 that is activated by a prior processing level F.sub.1. The network F.sub.2 activates compressed recognition close that are predictive with respect to the activation patterns flickering across F.sub.1, and competitively inhibits, or masks, codes which are unpredictive with respect to the F.sub.1 patterns. The masking field can simultaneously detect multiple groupings within its input patterns and assign activation weights to the recognition codes for these groupings which are predictive with respect to the contextual information embedded within the patterns and the prior learning of the network. Automatic rescaling of sensitivity of the masking field as the overall size of an input pattern changes, allows stronger activation of a code for the whole F.sub.1 pattern than for its salient parts. Network F.sub.2 also exhibits adaptive sharpening such that repetition of a familiar F.sub.1 pattern can tune the adaptive filter to elicit a more focal spatial activation of its F.sub.2 recognition code than does an unfamiliar input pattern. The F.sub.2 recognition code also becomes less distributed when an input pattern contains more contextual information on which to base an unambiguous prediction of the F.sub.1 pattern being processed. Thus the masking field embodies a real-time code to process the predictive evidence contained within its input patterns. Such capabilities are useful in speech recognition, visual object recognition, and cognitive information processinGOVERNMENT SUPPORTThis invention was made with Government support under AFOSR-85-0149 awarded by the Air Force. 摘要: Architecture that guides the freeform drawing of objects by a user to enable the user to produce improved drawings without significant training. As the user draws, the architecture dynamically updates a relevant shadow image proximate (e.g., underlying) the user's strokes. The strokes overlay an evolving shadow image, which shadow image is suggestive of object contours that guide the user during the drawing process. Relevant edge images selected from a large database are automatically blended to construct the shadow image. As the user draws, the strokes are dynamically analyzed using an encoding of overlapping windows for fast matching with the database of images. A top ranked set of matching database edge images are aligned to the drawing, a set of spatially varying weights blend the edge images into the shadow image, and a scoring technique is employed to select the optimum shadow image for display.

摘要: Users with mobile computing devices author skywriting and submit them to a virtual skywriting service. A mobile computing device having wireless network access is configured to capture a digital image of a real world scene including sky. The image is captured while the mobile computing device is in a geographical location or area. While the mobile computing device is still in the geographical location or area, it transmits via the wireless network a request for virtual skywriting. The request is received by a skywriting service that obtains or determines the geographical location/area that the computing device is in or near. The skywriting service selects a skywriting from among the previously submitted skywritings; the skywriting may be selected based on its having been entered at or associated with the geographical location. The mobile device receives the virtual skywriting from the service and displays a version of the digital image with the virtual skywriting added to the sky in the version of the digital image. Either the service or the mobile device may render the skywriting onto the image. Various effects may be applied in rendering the skywriting to give it realistic or vapor-like appearance.
