摘要: A method for securely providing privately viewable data in a publicly viewable display can include interspersing private data frames among public data frames according to a sequencing pattern. A syncstream can be encoded based upon a syncstream mask. More particularly, the syncstream can specify when to activate shutters in a set of active glasses in synchronization with the sequencing pattern. Notably, an encryption key pair can be generated having a public key and a private key. Using the public key, the syncstream mask can be encrypted and forwarded to a pair of active glasses. Once received in the active glasses, the encrypted syncstream mask can be decrypted with the private key. Finally, the decrypted syncstream mask can be applied to the encoded syncstream to determine when to activate the shutters in the active glasses.

摘要: A method for providing privately viewable data in a publically viewable display includes the steps of: positioning obscuring lights proximate to the publicly viewable display; generating a sequencing pattern; generating a data signal, the data signal comprising private data frames; providing the data signal to the publicly viewable display; activating and deactivating obscuring lights according to the sequencing pattern; and, opening and closing a shuttered display in a set of active glasses in accordance with the sequencing pattern. In consequence, a user viewing the display with the active glasses can view the private data while unauthorized viewers without the active glasses can view only the private data obscured by the obscuring lights.

摘要: A multimedia search and indexing for automatic selection of scenes and/or sounds recorded in a media using audio cues for replay in other contexts. Analyzing means analyze the media for audio levels within a set of frequency ranges. Audio clip level setting means set audio clip levels as audio cues for identifying a scene of interest in the media within the set of selected frequency ranges. Generating means generate a list of candidate scenes matching the audio cues in the selected frequency ranges for replay in the other contexts.

摘要: A presently disclosed radio broadcasting system for a virtual radio program broadcasting station uses a divided regional approach to broadcast digital and analog signals over a large geographic region divided into multiple overlapping but separate areas constituting small portions of the region. The small areas are served by separate transmission sources/towers supplied from a common source central to the station. The system supports reuse of allocated transmission parameters within non-neighboring small areas in the region. The station is "virtual" because its central source need not be in any of the small areas, and because it uses different transmission parameters in neighboring small areas in a manner that previously would be used by plural different stations. System transmissions include information signals sent in both analog and digital forms. The analog signals representing audibly reproducible programs, and the digital signals include instructions for controlling operations of receiver devices operating in the region. The digital signals also may include audibly reproducible program matter and instructions for controlling insertion of that matter into a program stream defined by analog transmissions. These transmissions are particularly useful for varying tuning parameters of mobile receiver devices disclosed herein to automatically and seamlessly maintain the devices tuned to the respective virtual station throughout the region, while the devices are transported across virtual boundaries between the small areas within the region. The system enables the virtual station to alternately present audible matter of general interest throughout the region and audible matter relevant exclusively to a small area within the region (e.g. advertisements specifying locations and services offered by commercial establishments within a respective area, and announcements specifying locations of public facilities such as libraries, hospitals, etc.). Transmitted digital information is retained in mass storage units associated with receiver devices and is used for adjusting tuning parameters as a device is transported across the small areas of the region, as well as for providing a portion of the program content that is played at the device during such movement.

摘要: A system and method of providing information (such as directions) to a driver of a vehicle while driving the vehicle without requiring that the driver remove his eyes from looking out the windshield at the road ahead. A positioning device is associated with the vehicle and determines the present location of the vehicle which is compared to a desired location (e.g., the location of a desired turn at an intersection) necessary to reach a preset destination which has been stored. When the vehicle is in a predetermined location (e.g., 500 feet or 10 second before the intersection), an advisory message to the driver is projected onto the windshield using a heads-up display projector so that the driver can prepare for and make the necessary movement (e.g., turning the correct way at the desired intersection). An optional auditory signal can provide a message indicating the necessary action, either in general or specifically (through a speech synthesizer), with optionally different sound indicators, depending on the urgency of the action. A wireless receiver used with the present invention can display other information such as road conditions, traffic and weather information, as well as advertising and e-mail. The present invention contemplates that images of intersections (live pictures, photos or sketches) may be displayed to indicate the proper turn and provide landmark information to assist in determining the appropriate turn.

摘要: A system and method of conducting commercial activities such as an auction in a rather localized area (such as a shopping mall). Potential consumers located in the local area have a mobile wireless communications device (for example, a smart cellular phone or a 2-way radio or a Bluetooth communication device) including a set of stored instructions allowing the device to be programmed with a set of desired transactions and preferences such as the brands or transaction types which the consumer prefers. Merchants are connected to receive a communication from the communications device and respond to the desired transaction and preferences by proposing goods or services at specific terms such as price. The mobile wireless communications device associated with the potential consumer has the potential to receive communications from merchants (either directly or through an intermediate system) and to transmit a communication back to the merchant indicating the potential offer so that a merchant can revise or improve the offer. In this way, local merchants can be aware of the offers that a consumer receives and can improve on those offers to secure the potential consumer's business. While the actual transaction may be conducted in person at the merchant, one can envision a system where the transaction is completed through the wireless communication system with the payment occurring through charge or other electronic transaction and the delivery of the goods or service through conventional delivery channels.
