Abstract: A wireless network including user equipment (UE) and base stations is configured to perform position determination with low latency and high availability within the Time-Sensitive Networking (TSN) framework. For example, the UE may be integrated as a sensor in a motion control system or similar applications. The UE and base stations are synchronized with the TSN clock, and are configured to perform positioning measurements at a specific time point within the TSN framework. The time point, for example, may be a global sampling point, at which all sensor nodes in the TSN framework perform position measurements. A location server may be provided with the positioning measurements or a position estimate from the UE and provide the position estimate to an external client, such as a motion controller in a motion control system.

Abstract: Methods and techniques are described for supporting location services for a user equipment (UE) using a location server and service based interfaces (SBIs) and SBI service operations in a Fifth Generation wireless network. The location server may be, e.g., a Location Management Function (LMF). The LMF may be in either a serving Public Land Mobile Network (PLMN) for a UE or in a Home PLMN for a roaming UE. The LMF may receive a location service request for the UE using an SBI and may communicate with another entity in the network, through a second entity and using an SBI, to obtain location information for the UE measured by the other entity. The LMF may determine a location for the UE based on the location information.

Abstract: Techniques described herein provide ways in which a quantity of signaling may be limited between a user equipment (UE) and a location server (LS) for a location session and a positioning protocol such as LPP or LPP/LPPe. The positioning protocol may be enhanced to allow the LS to indicate to the UE a limit on the overall size of assistance data (AD) that the UE can request and/or a limit on the overall amount of location information (LI) that the UE can return. A recipient UE can then prioritize any request for AD such that more important AD should fit within the size limit. The recipient UE can also prioritize returned location measurements such that more useful measurements are included in a message to the LS that is compliant to the limit indicated by the LS.

Abstract: A method is presented. The method includes receiving a trigger for establishing an emergency call at a first vehicle and determining, in response to the trigger, whether a communication system associated with the first vehicle currently has access to a first wireless communications network. The method also includes searching for a second wireless communications network when the communication system currently does not have access. The method further includes searching for a second vehicle with peer-to-peer wireless access capability when the second wireless communications network is not found. The method still further includes transmitting vehicle related data to the second vehicle via the peer-to-peer wireless access capability when the second vehicle is found.

Abstract: Techniques are discussed herein for supporting location of a user equipment (UE) with wireless access using a user plane (UP) location solution like SUPL. To locate the UE, an initial UP location session is established between the UE and a location server (LS) during which the LS requests location measurements from the UE. The UE obtains the location measurements by ending the location session and entering an idle state, after indicating this intent to the LS. The UE sends the location measurements to the LS by reentering a connected state and starting a new UP location session with the LS, which may be associated with the initial location session using common identification information. The techniques may be used for a UE with only a single RF chain (e.g. a UE that supports NB-IoT or other narrowband wireless access).

Abstract: Disclosed are techniques for determining a distance (or range) between a first wireless entity and a second wireless entity. In an aspect, the first wireless entity transmits a first positioning reference signaling (PRS) signal to the second wireless entity at a first time, where the first PRS signal is received by the second wireless entity at a second time, and receives a second PRS signal from the second wireless entity at a third time, where the second PRS signal is transmitted by the second wireless entity at a fourth time. The first wireless entity enables the distance to be determined by a location computing entity, for example, by a location server, based on the first, second, third, and fourth times. The first wireless entity may be a mobile device or a base station and the second wireless entity may be the other of the mobile device or base station.

Abstract: Techniques described herein may enable more accurate location of a user equipment (UE) that may be subject to movement or velocity. The UE may obtain, during a period of time, location-related measurements of RF signals received at the UE, where the location-related measurements are indicative of a location of the UE during the period of time; The UE may also obtain, using sensors of the UE, velocity-related measurements indicative of a movement or velocity of the UE during the period of time. The UE may send the location-related measurements and the velocity-related measurements to a location server, which may compute a location of the UE based on the measurements. The location computation may allow for movement of the UE during the period of time.

Abstract: Bandwidth Parts (BWPs) are used for the transmission and measurement of positioning reference signals during a positioning session. A location server may obtain relevant BWP information, such as the active BWP or a list of configured BWPs, from one or more base stations and/or the user equipment (UE) for the positioning session. The location server may provide assistance data to the UE that is determined based on the BWP information, so that the UE may measure PRS signals from intra-frequency base stations. The location server may further determine a preferred BWP or prohibited BWPs, which may be forwarded to the serving base station to control the BWPs that are used during the positioning session.

Abstract: Disclosed are techniques for supporting inter-RAT mobility of a UE in an eCall-only mode. In an aspect, the UE establishes a communication session for an eCall or a test/reconfiguration call, releases the communication session for the eCall or test/reconfiguration call, starts a timer based on at least one of (i) release, by the UE, of a PS signaling connection for a UMTS access for the communication session, (ii) expiration at the UE of a READY timer for GPRS, wherein the READY timer was started by the UE following a PS handover of the communication session from an LTE access to a GSM-GPRS access, (iii) intersystem change by the UE from an LTE access to a GSM-GPRS access or a UMTS access, or (iv) intersystem change by the UE from a GSM access or a UMTS access to an LTE access, and performs an eCall inactivity procedure when the timer expires.

Abstract: A method is provided to enable handoff of an emergency services call between different network operators. A UE may establish a first call with a first network for a first network operator based on a first wireless access type, where the first call is an emergency services call to a PSAP. The UE may then determine impaired wireless coverage for the first wireless access type and unimpaired wireless coverage for a second wireless access type for a second network, where the second network is for a second network operator different to the first network operator. The UE may then establish a second call with the second network based on the second wireless access type, where the second call is a continuation of the first call to the PSAP. In embodiments, the first wireless access type is WiFi and the second wireless access type is cellular.
