摘要: A fuel cell assembly is disclosed that utilizes a fuel cell plate having hydrophobic portions adjacent an inlet and an outlet formed therein, and a hydrophilic portion formed in the flow channels of the fuel cell plate adjacent the hydrophobic portions, wherein the hydrophilic portion and the hydrophobic portion facilitate the transport of liquid water from the fuel cell plate.

摘要: A separator plate for a fuel cell is provided, including a substrate having a radiation-cured first flow field layer disposed thereon. A method for fabricating the separator plate is also provided. The method includes the steps of providing a substrate; applying a first radiation-sensitive material to the substrate; placing a first mask between a first radiation source and the first radiation-sensitive material, the first mask having a plurality of substantially radiation-transparent apertures; and exposing the first radiation-sensitive material to a plurality of first radiation beams to form a radiation-cured first flow field layer adjacent the substrate. A fuel cell having the separator plate is also provided.

摘要: An electro-conductive plate assembly for a fuel cell has a pair of stamped plates joined together to define a coolant volume therein. Each of the pair of stamped plates has a flow field on a major outer surface arranged to maximize the contact area between major inner surfaces of the plates while allowing coolant to distribute and flow readily within the coolant volume. The flow fields formed on the major outer surfaces provide corresponding sets of lands on the major inner surfaces that contact to form a third flow field of the coolant volume. The third flow field formed by the lands includes a plurality of longitudinal channels and an array of flow disruptors. The bipolar plate assembly further includes a seal arrangement and integral manifolds to direct reactant gas and coolant flow through the fuel cell.

摘要: A combined subgasket and membrane support for a fuel cell is provided. The combined subgasket and membrane support includes a substantially fluid impermeable feed region circumscribing a porous membrane support region. The membrane support region is integrally formed with the feed region. At least one of the membrane support region and the feed region is at least partially formed by a radiation-cured structure. A method for fabricating the subgasket and membrane support for the fuel cell is also provided.

摘要: An electro-chemical fuel cell stack having a fuel cell assembly disposed between upper and lower terminal plates which are disposed between upper and lower end plates. Optionally, spacer plates can be inserted between the end plates and the terminal plates. The end plates and/or the spacer plates may have contoured surfaces to apply a generally uniform compressive load on the fuel cell assembly. The terminal plates, spacer plates, and end plates may be connected together to form rigid end assemblies that compress the fuel cell assembly.

摘要: A fuel injection nozzle has a valve seat assembly with an upstream and a downstream seat interconnected by a longitudinally extending passage and by a bypass extending from a location upstream of the first seat to a chamber located intermediate of the two seats. A popper valve assembly has upstream and downstream valve members interconnected by a spacer member disposed within the chamber and operable relative to respective valve seats to regulate flow through the nozzle. A biasing member urges the valve member into a normally closed position in which the upstream valve member is unseated and the downstream member is seated to interrupt flow therethrough and out of the nozzle. Introduction of a fuel pulse into the nozzle moves the upstream valve member into engagement with its valve seat to thereby unseat the downstream valve member from its valve seat to allow fuel flow through the bypass around the upstream valve/seat wherein the fuel is discharged into the chamber intermediate of the two valve members. The fuel undergoes a pressure drop upon its exit from the bypass and is subject to movement about the chamber and the spacer member to optimize the atomization of the fuel as it exits the nozzle through the open, downstream valve/seat.

摘要: A fuel pressure regulator base has a fuel chamber adapted for plug-connection directly to the fuel rail to receive fuel from the rail, a flexible diaphragm closes the chamber, a cover forms a pressure chamber with the diaphragm, and the pressure regulator base further has a pressure passage adapted for plug-connection directly to the inlet manifold and extending to the pressure chamber to transfer the manifold pressure to the pressure chamber. The diaphragm thereby senses the difference between the fuel pressure and the manifold pressure and operates a valve to discharge excess fuel from the fuel chamber and the fuel rail and thus maintain the fuel in the rail at the desired pressure.
