    摘要: A optical system of an optical pick-up is provided. The optical system includes an optical element including at least a phase shift surface among the surfaces thereof, and located closer to a light source than the objective lens. In this configuration, t1≦t2 is satisfied, where t1 represents a thickness of a cover layer of a first optical disc for which a first laser beam is employed, and t2 a thickness of a cover layer of a second optical disc for which a second laser beam, having a longer wavelength than the first laser beam, is employed. NA1≧NA2 is satisfied, where NA1 represents a numerical aperture for the first optical disc, and NA 2 the numerical aperture for the second optical disc. The phase shift surface includes a first region that converges the first laser beam on a recording surface of the first optical disc, and the second laser beam on a recording surface of the second optical disc. The first region includes at least an annular zone structure having an annular zone group including a step that gives an additional optical path length to the first laser beam generally by two wavelengths, with respect to an inner refracting surface at a boundary between adjacent refracting surfaces, and a return step portion located at an outer position of the annular zone group. The return step includes a step that gives an additional optical path length to the first laser beam generally by three wavelengths with respect to an inner refracting surface located inside of the return step, in an opposite direction to the step of the annular zone group.

The method includes determining at least two types of optical path difference functions including first and second optical path difference functions in such a manner that proportion, brought by the first optical path difference function, between diffraction orders at which diffraction efficiencies of the plurality of light beams are maximized is different from proportion, brought by the second optical path difference function, between diffraction orders at which diffraction efficiencies of the plurality of light beams are maximized, and obtaining a shape defined by combining the at least two types of optical path difference functions so as to apply the obtained shape to at least one surface of surfaces of the optical element.

    摘要: An optical system of an optical pick-up for a plurality of types of optical discs with a corresponding plurality of light sources. A first coupling lens that is used at least for the first optical disc, and an objective lens that is used for the plurality of types of optical discs. A beam for the first optical disc emitted by the plurality of light sources passes through the first coupling lens and is incident on the objective lens as a diverging beam. The diverging beam being given spherical aberration by the coupling lens. When the objective lens shift occurs, a coma component relating to the spherical aberration of the diverging beam which is shifted with respect to the objective lens due to the shift of the objective lens is canceled by a coma generated by the objective lens and the cover layer of the first optical disc.

    摘要: When it is intended to realize a lens having a large NA with one lens, an adjustment precision between both surfaces of the lens is very strict. Accordingly an objective lens having an NA of 0.8 or more was usually realized by two lenses. However, a working distance is small, and collision of the objective lens with a disc is apt to occur. A coma corrector for compensating coma caused by decentering of both surfaces in realizing the high NA lens with one lens is added. However, in this case, astigmatism occurs when the objective lens decenters from the coma corrector relatively accompanied with a tracking operation. The objective lens and the coma corrector are fixed to a mirror barrel so as to be unified with each other, and driven by a two-dimensional lens actuator. With such a constitution, decentering of the objective lens and the coma corrector does not occur, and hence astigmatism does not occur.

    摘要: An optical system of an optical pick-up that is capable of using thin cover type and thick cover type optical discs. The system includes a light source portion for emitting a short wavelength laser beam for the thin cover type optical disc and a long wavelength laser beam for the thick cover type optical disc, and an objective lens for converging the laser beam onto an information layer of the optical disc through the cover layer. The objective lens has a diffractive lens structure having wavelength dependence such that spherical aberration varies in the overcorrected direction as incident wavelength increases. The light source portion emits the laser beam such that divergence of the long wavelength laser beam incident on the objective lens is larger than that of the short wavelength laser beam. The objective lens converges the laser beams of an identical diffractive order without changing position thereof.

    摘要: An objective lens includes a refractive lens having a positive refractive power, and a diffractive lens structure having a plurality of concentric ring-shaped steps that are formed on a lens surface of the refractive lens. The objective lens is a biconvex plastic lens having first and second aspherical surfaces. The diffractive lens structure has such a wavelength dependence that at least two diffracted beams having different wavelengths with the same diffraction order form appropriate wavefronts for at least two kinds of optical discs having cover layers of different thickness, respectively. Further, the diffractive lens structure has a predetermined power at any points in a middle ring area that is concentrically arranged about the optical axis at a middle range of the radius of the refractive lens.

    摘要: Disclosed is an optical disc apparatus that is adapted for DVD, CD and CD-R. The optical system includes a laser module and an objective lens that converges a divergent laser beam emitted from the laser module onto information layers of optical discs. The laser module is provided with a pair of emission points that are in close proximity to each other, and a pair of light receiving elements. A focusing mechanism moves the objective lens so that the beam spot follows an information layer of the optical disc. The objective lens is provided with the diffractive lens structure to have a wavelength dependence such that the spherical aberration varies in response to the change of the wavelength. Thereby, the variation of the spherical aberration due to the change of the thickness of the cover layer can be canceled by changing the wavelength.
