In one embodiment, the write functional section includes a coil conductor, second soft magnetic film pattern and first soft magnetic film pattern that cover the coil conductor from top and bottom and are magnetically coupled to each other, and a main magnetic pole piece determining a track width. The read functional section includes a reading element sandwiched between two magnetic shield films. A pedestal magnetic pole pattern is formed at the frontal end position of the first soft magnetic film pattern.

    摘要: A single pole type magnetic head has a writing head including a main pole and an auxiliary pole, and a reading head including a read element, wherein the main pole has a recess on the trailing side of its air bearing surface. When recording is performed on a perpendicular medium by using the single pole type magnetic head, the magnetic field distribution on the trailing side of the main pole air bearing surface is linearized, whereby the magnetic reversal is determined. As a result, a bit is recorded without curving the shape of magnetic reversal. Accordingly, when the bit is read, the magnetic reversal width appears to be large, so that the half-width of a solitary wave is increased, and at the same time, the recording track width is narrowed with an increase in linear recording density.

    摘要: A magnetic-recording head with touch-down detector incorporating a carbon nano-tube (CNT). The magnetic-recording head includes a write element, a read element and a touch-down detector. The write element is configured to write data to a magnetic-recording disk. The read element is configured to read data from the magnetic-recording disk. The touch-down detector includes a thermal sensor, and a CNT portion. The thermal sensor is configured to convert heat to a voltage signal. The CNT portion is configured to touch down on the magnetic-recording disk. The CNT portion is also coupled to the thermal sensor, and is configured to transfer heat generated by contact between the CNT portion and the magnetic-recording disk to the thermal sensor. A hard-disk drive (HDD) including the magnetic-recording head with touch-down detector incorporating a CNT, and a method for detecting contact between the magnetic-recording head and a recording surface of a magnetic-recording disk are also provided.
