Abstract: The coil assembly includes a substrate including a first coil set and a second coil set. The first coil set includes two or more coil elements that are configured to operate at a first radio frequency and the second coil set includes one or more coil elements that are configured to operate at a second radio frequency. The substrate is a flexible substrate and radio-frequency isolation means are provided for reducing coupling between at least some of the coil elements. Abstract: A sample is illuminated by laser light and the resulting Raman spectrum is dispersed at a high spectral resolution along one or more rows or columns of detector elements of a CCD. The resulting charge is shifted in a direction Y′ and binned in an output register of the CCD. The dispersed spectrum is moved along the rows or columns in a direction X′, synchronously with the shifting of charge in the output register. Thus, data from a given wavenumber in the spectrum continues to accumulate in the output register during the movement. This enables data from a wide spectrum to be collected at high resolution, without the need to subsequently stitch blocks of data together in a computer, even where the CCD is arranged such that row-by-row transfer of charge towards the output register is orthogonal to the direction of dispersion.

Abstract: A measurement system has a surface sensing device mounted on an articulating probe head, which in turn is mounted on a coordinate positioning apparatus. The surface sensing device is moved relative to a surface by driving at least one of the coordinate positioning apparatus and probe head in at least one axis to scan the surface. The surface sensing device measures its distance from the surface and the probe head is driven to rotate the surface sensing device about at least one axis in order to control the relative position of the surface sensing device from the surface to within a predetermined range in real time.

Abstract: A workpiece inspection system is disclosed for determining measurements of a workpiece on a machine tool. The system utilizes a measurement device which outputs data relating to the workpiece (e.g. in place of a conventional cutter). The problem of obtaining real time data relating to the position of the machine tool is overcome by recording a machine tool position data set and a measurement device data set at selected instants which are defined by a synchronization signal. Abstract: A method of calibrating a measurement probe (10) mounted on a machine is described. The measurement probe (10) has a stylus (14) with a workpiece contacting tip (16). The method comprises determining a probe calibration matrix that relates the probe outputs (a,b,c) to the machine coordinate system (x,y,z.). Lateral displacements of the stylus tip are detected by a light beam which passes along the stylus from a light source to a retroreflector. Abstract: Contact sensing probe apparatus includes a workpiece contacting stylus, a transducer mechanically coupled to the stylus and an oscillator for supplying an alternating current to the transducer to induce vibration of the stylus. A contact sensor is also provided for monitoring the phase difference between the voltage supplied to the transducer and the current flow to the transducer.
