Abstract:
A fiber cord comprises a core which is formed by braiding a plurality of strands, each comprising at least one fiber filament of high elongation. Around the core, an outer layer element is formed by braiding a plurality of strands, each comprising at least one fiber filament of low elongation and high strength. Around the outer layer element, a protective layer element is formed by braiding a plurality of strands, each comprising at least one fiber of high elongation.
Abstract:
A faired article comprising a cable having a core surrounded by a braided jacket is provided with at least one row of fairing loops extending lengthwise of the jacket for the purpose of reducing strumming, drag and cable fatigue when the cable is installed underwater. The faired article is manufactured by guiding a length of fairing yarn into proximity with the upstream side of the ring of a braider, entraining the fairing yarn in an air stream directed across the path of movement of the braid yarns inside the braider ring, and causing the fairing yarn entrained therein to pass through the path of movement of the braid yarns as they advance around the braider ring, thereby enabling the braid yarns to form the fairing yarn into loops as the braid yarns form the jacket around the core. Preferred apparatus for practicing the method of the present invention is also disclosed.
Abstract:
The invention is directed to a jacketed mooring rope (1) comprising a core rope (2) and a jacket (3) surrounding said core rope, wherein the jacket comprises a braided layer of level 2 braided strands (30) and wherein said level 2 braided strands each comprise a plurality of level 1 braided strands (40). In another aspect, the invention is directed to a rope (30) for use in the jacket (3) of the jacketed mooring rope (1), wherein said rope (30) comprises a plurality of level 1 braided strands (40) that each comprise a plurality of braided yarns (50) surrounding one or more core yarns (51), wherein the braided yarns and the core yarns comprise fibers having a yarn count of at least 440 den; a tenacity of at least 5 g/den; and/or a modulus of at least 100 g/den.
Abstract:
A cord comprises a braided sheath of strands having an outer surface, an inner surface, and a central hollow portion defined by the inner surface and having a volume and a core within the central hollow portion of the tubular braided sheath, such that when the cord is in a relaxed state the tubular braided sheath has a cylindrical shape and a relaxed volume of the central hollow portion wherein the core does not fill the relaxed volume of the central hollow portion of the tubular braided sheath; when the cord is in a longitudinal tensioned state, the tubular braided sheath elongates under the longitudinal tension such that a tensioned volume of at least a part of the central hollow portion of the tubular braided sheath is less than the relaxed volume; and the inner surface of the tubular braided sheath of tensioned volume contacts and cinches a surface of the core.
Abstract:
A cord is provided, including: a core material and an outer layer. The core material includes a plurality of first strands braided with one another, and the outer layer is disposed around the core material and includes a plurality of second strands knitted with one another.
Abstract:
A chain includes a plurality of interconnected chain links, wherein at least one of the chain links comprises a Turk's head braided core having at least two consecutive turns of at least one primary strand. The at least one primary strand includes polymeric elongated elements having a tenacity of at least 1.0 N/tex.
