The invention relates to a method for identifying the operating condition of a turbine during operation. According to said method, a hot waste gas flows through a waste gas housing and the temperature of the waste gas in said housing is detected using temporal resolution. The aim of the invention is to provide a method for identifying the operating condition of a turbine during operation, which identifies and displays systematic errors. To achieve this, the numerous measured temperature values for the waste gas are respectively detected using local resolution with reference to the origin of an imaginary Cartesian co-ordinate system. The focal point of the temperature distribution is then determined, a vector between the origin of the Cartesian co-ordinate system and the focal point of the temperature distribution being used as an indicator for the operating condition of the turbines.

A system and method for regulating the temperature of a sensor to reduce temperature gradients that form within the sensor. In one embodiment, the temperature gradients are reduced utilizing a temperature regulator with two controlled zones that surround a variable capacitance sensor. Measurements are made for the ambient temperature of at least one of the two temperature controlled zones, and the temperature differential between the two temperature controlled zones. The temperature regulator then adjusts the temperature of the two controlled zones based upon this differential in order to minimize the existing temperature gradient.

A multipoint temperature sensor for measuring fluid temperature in a duct includes multiple thermistors of equal resistance, spaced apart in a circuit. Each thermistor has a positive lead and a negative lead for connecting electrically with the circuit. Wires connect the thermistors such that half of the thermistors are placed in parallel with the other half of the thermistors. The total number of thermistors in the circuit is a perfect square. Shrinkwrap fits over the thermistors and the leads. Tabs disposed on bridging clips bend around the shrinkwrap and the wires on either side of each thermistor such that the tabs do not overlap the leads. All the wires between adjacent thermistors are contained in a single, plenum rated sheathing.

A method for characterizing the parameters of a normally occurring turbine exhaust gas temperature profile is provided. From that characterization the characteristics of a filter function to eliminate or significantly reduce the strength of aliased signals from that normally occurring pattern are established. Sensors to provide filtering functions for that purpose include a distributed gradient thermocouple system and a resistance thermometer system. Examples of such sensor systems are disclosed. The method and related sensors improve the detection limits associated with exhaust gas temperature profiles used to monitor, diagnose, and control gas turbines.

Three fast response resistance temperature sensors (A, B, C) are spaced 120 degrees apart on a circular plane normal to fluid flow in the hotleg (14) from a nuclear reactor (10). Each sensor produces a temperature signal and is assigned a weighting factor, between zero and one hundred percent, in inverse proportion to the relative magnitude of the temperature fluctuation. The sensor with the smallest signal fluctuation receives the highest weighting factor. The sum of the factors equals one hundred percent. The temperature associated with a sensor (A, B, C) is multiplied by the sensor's respective weighting factor, to produce a second temperature. The actual temperature for the hotleg (14) is the sum of the second temperatures.
