摘要： A method and system for rewriting data on a tape when an error occurs during an initial write operation. When the initial write error occurs, the data is rewritten at a location that is a pre-defined block gap distance from the last valid write location on the tape. By measuring the length of the pre-defined block gap distance, the cause or causes of the write error or errors are known. Thus, the pre-defined block gap not only ensures that the data is not re-written in a no-write zone of the tape, due to the zone known to be error prone, but a historical record of past write errors is logged based on the length of the block gaps.

摘要： A method of loading a tape from a single reel tape cartridge into a take-up reel. Position sensors detect position of a guide arm as a tape loading mechanism loads and unloads tapes from a single reel tape cartridge. The position sensors are accurate and eliminate problems that occur from small misalignments of hub filler access with the access of the take-up reel. Further, the position sensors enable the hub filler to consistently attach to a leader pin at the end of the tape of the single reel tape cartridge without frequent malfunctions.

摘要： In a tape drive in which a magnetic tape in the tape cassette loaded therein is driven and wound on a take-up reel in the tape drive, a ring cam is rotated by a mode motor and controls engagement of a supply reel motor with supply reel of the cassette and operation of a buckle to engage a take-up leader tape of the take-up reel with a supply leader tape of the magnetic tape of the cassette. The ring cam has first and second arc-shaped shielding plates at different angular positions on a circle around its rotation axis, while first and second optical switches are fixedly disposed to straddle the first and second shielding plates, respectively, to produce detection signals depending on angular position of the ring cam rotating. A control unit starts rotation of the mode motor when said cassette is loaded and then controls stop and rotation of the mode motor in response to the detection signals.

摘要： A mode reset method for a magnetic recording/reproducing apparatus whereby a deck is preferably reset to a predetermined mode of operation when power is applied. The method includes an initializing step and a mode reset step. Preferably, the initializing step includes substeps for driving a plunger, rotating a capstan motor to connect a transmission gear to a loading system when the power is applied, and then retracting the plunger. The mode reset step includes substeps for resetting the deck to a stop mode when the deck is in the stop mode, when the deck is between the stop mode and a playback mode, or when the deck is between the stop mode and an unloading stop mode at the time power is applied. Alternatively, the mode reset step resets the deck to the unloading stop mode, when the deck is stopped between the unloading stop mode and eject mode. During the mode reset step, operation is controlling responsive to frequency generator signals during rotation of the capstan motor, and the outputs from stop and a cassette-in sensors. The mode reset method advantageously enables the deck to recognize its own mode of operation and to prevent malfunction thereof when the power is applied. An apparatus adapted to performing the method is also described.

摘要： A friction force drive capstan tape recorder having movable arms to tension a tape between an idler and a drive capstan. The displacement of the arms is sensed to provide an input signal to a control circuit to vary the rotational torque of the take-up reel motor. This closed loop system allows constant tension to be maintained on the tape and the sensing of the end of the tape. Freely rotatable tape shifters are provided to minimize tension loss. The movable arms are outwardly displaceable to facilitate tape loading by means of a gear train coupled to the operating lever. At the same time the rollers are displaced to facilitate tape handling. A switch may be coupled to the operating lever to provide power to the system or cut it off.

摘要： A magnetic recording reproducing apparatus is made ready to operation by insertion thereto of a pack housing an endless recording medium. When a magnetic card is inserted into the apparatus with the pack inserted thereto, the contents, informations or data recorded on the magnetic card are read out and recorded on the endless recording medium and then the recorded contents, informations or data are reproduced from the endless recording medium. After passage of the magnetic card through the apparatus, the reproduction from the endless recording medium will repeatedly continue. When a magnetic card is inserted into the apparatus without any pack inserted thereto, a direct reproduction from the magnetic card is performed. When another type of a pack housing an endless recording medium having a longer playing time period is inserted into the apparatus, the reproduction from the recording medium can be effected, and any information transfer from the magnetic card to the recording medium cannot be performed and any direct reproduction from the magnetic card cannot be effected.
