Abstract:
A communication apparatus that reduces the number of procedural steps that need to be performed by a user in attaching facsimile data to an e-mail and transmitting the e-mail, includes a CPU of a personal computer that starts a transmission program for performing a series of operations, such as causing a facsimile apparatus to scan a document, generating an image file of the scan data, attaching the image file to an email, and transmitting the e-mail. In accordance with the transmission program, a mail address, a scan mode, and a format for generating an image file of the scan data are set. Then, the CPU instructs the facsimile apparatus to start scanning a document. The CPU receives and stores scan data. Upon receiving a scan end command, the CPU converts the scan data into the format designated as described above, and generates an image file of the scan data. After attaching the image file to an e-mail, the CPU transmits the e-mail.
Abstract:
A camera-printer system comprises a still video camera provided with a release switch, and a printer provided with a print start switch. The still video camera and the printer are connected to each other. By depressing either the release switch or the print start switch once, a photographing operation is started in the still video camera. By depressing either the release switch or the print start switch again, or by initially depressing the release switch or the print start switch continuously for more than a predetermined period, a printing operation of the printer is automatically started after the photographing operation of the still video camera.
Abstract:
A digital image storage system includes a digital camera having a first terminal for data communication in accordance with a data communication interface standard and an adapter for the digital camera for communicating with the digital camera. The adapter has a second terminal for data communication in accordance with the same data communication interface standard as in the first terminal. The digital image storage system further includes a data storage having a third terminal for data communication in accordance with the same data communication interface standard as in the first terminal. The data storage is capable of communicating with the digital camera by way of the adapter through a connection between the third and the second terminals and also capable of directly communicating with the digital camera through a connection between the third and the first terminals.
Abstract:
Disclosed is an image processing apparatus composed in a hierarchical architecture of a hardware resource, a first control program over the hardware resource, a second control program and an application program over the first control program. The first control program includes a first API for receiving a first request relating to image processing from the second control program and a second request relating to image processing from the application program, and controls, on receiving either of the first and second requests, the hardware resource to perform image processing based on the received request. The second control program includes a second API publicly released in advance for receiving a third request relating to image processing from an external source, converts the received third request to a command supported by the first API, and passes the command as the first request to the first control program.
Abstract:
Image forming apparatus is equipped with a memory for storing additional images and an area discriminating unit for discriminating areas included in document images. The area discriminating unit discriminates text areas included in a document image based on the cyclicity of the density distribution of the document image. An additional image stored in the memory is synthesized into a discriminated text area. On the other hand, no additional image is synthesized into graphic areas and photograph areas. Images obtained as a result of the syntheses of document images and additional images are printed out on paper.
Abstract:
An image forming apparatus accepts setting related to scanning of documents and setting of a destination of image-related information including thumbnail images, and stores image data obtained by scanning. Further, the image forming apparatus produces the image-related information including the thumbnail images from the image data, and sends it to a personal computer being the set destination. The personal computer displays the thumbnail images, and instruction of an output form of the image data is provided to the image forming apparatus by using the thumbnail image. The image forming apparatus outputs the stored image data in the output form instructed by the personal computer.
Abstract:
A fax is sent. A user selects a phone number for a fax destination from a database residing on a handheld device. The phone number is sent from the handheld device to a fax machine via wireless communication. A fax transmission is sent by the fax machine to the fax destination.
Abstract:
One digital copying machine is set as a parent machine and other copying machines are set as child machines. When documents are set both on an ADF of the parent machine and on an ADF of at least one child machine, a CPU of the parent machine performs two types of controls in parallel. In the first control, the ADF of the parent machine automatically feeds each of the original documents, the scanner of the parent machine reads images, and MEM-C or HDD of the parent machine stores the images. In the second control, the ADF of the child machine automatically feeds each of the original documents, the scanner of the child machine reads images, IEEE1394 1/F of the child machine transfers the images to the parent machine, and the MEM-C or the HDD of the parent machine stores the images.
Abstract:
Even after a file system has been changed by an external apparatus, a photographing operation and a recording operation can be normally performed by a digital camera constructed with a recording device which can be rewritten by an external digital camera control apparatus connected thereto and an information holding device for holding information regarding the recording device. The apparatus is arranged such that the information regarding the recording device is updated by reflecting the contents in the recording device by the information holding device in response to a request from the external digital camera control apparatus, so that when a photographing operation or a communication is performed, the contents in the recording device is always reflected to the information holding device.
Abstract:
An image pickup system including a digital camera and a personal computer (PC) connected to each other. The camera includes a camera control unit for controlling picture-taking based on photographing conditions set either by the camera or the PC, and a communication unit for communicating with the PC. The PC includes: a display for displaying the photographing condition and an image, a mouse and the like capable of setting the photographing condition through the operation on a screen, a communication unit for communicating with the camera, a capture-mode start/termination unit for selecting between a first photographing mode in which the camera serves as a master and a second photographing mode in which the PC serves as the master, and a control unit for setting the second photographing mode just after the start of control of the PC for: reading photographing information of the camera, and after that, setting either the first photographing mode or the second photographing mode in accordance with the selection.
