    摘要: A quartz lamp that permits the bulb to be replaced from a side port without disassembling the lamp housing, and without having to touch the quartz envelope of the bulb. The lamp has an access port in a side wall of the lamp housing through which an expired bulb is extracted and a replacement bulb is installed. A knob seats in the access port where it is lockable into its seated position. Attached to the inner surface of the knob is a first bulb holder assembly, which receives and holds the bulb at one of its ends and establishes electrical contact with the bulb at that end. A second bulb holder assembly is secured within the lamp housing at a position opposite the access port and in registration with the first bulb holder assembly. The second bulb holder assembly receives and holds, and establishes electrical contact with, the bulb at the opposite end when it is inserted into the lamp housing through the access port. The second bulb holder assembly mounted within the lamp housing may be electrically connected directly to an electrical power lead. The first bulb holder assembly has a first electrical contact member that is electrically connected to an electrical power lead within the lamp housing and is secured within the lamp housing. A second electrical contact member is mechanically and electrically secured to the first bulb holder assembly and is arranged to electrically engage the first electrical contact member when the knob is in its seated position so as to connect the power lead to a bulb in the first bulb holder assembly when the bulb and assembly are inserted into the lamp housing and the knob is seated in the access port. Removal of the knob with attached first bulb holder assembly thus permits the bulb to be changed without opening up the lamp housing.

Therefore, in replacing a fluorescent tube 44, it is not necessary to replace the whole backlight 20 or for the user to touch the fluorescent tube 44, which is difficult to handle. Because of the perpendicular removal, only a small space is needed for the replacement. Thus, the fluorescent tube 44 can be replaced safely and easily, and only a small space is required for this replacement.

    摘要: An explosion proof power supply enclosure for hazardous atmosphere lighting systems having multiple, identical explosion proof inlet and outlet openings to handle both high voltage AC circuits and low voltage DC intrinsically safe circuits. Each enclosure has thick, flat metal plate end walls and a plurality of identical circular openings located side-by-side in such walls. Each opening has an internal smooth walled surface configuration defining one side of a flame-quenching path. For AC power connections, explosion-proof receptacles are fitted in some of the openings with each receptacle having external surface configurations that define the other side of the flame quenching path. For intrinsically safe circuit conductors, other openings are fitted with adaptors having identical external surface configurations defining flame quenching paths and the adaptors have a variety of electrical and mechanical mechanisms controlling access to the enclosures; three examples of such mechanisms are given as a solid plug, intrinsically safe receptacles and a switch actuating plunger.

    摘要: A mechanism for positioning one of a plurality of lamps, each carried by a lamp socket, at a desired focal point of an optical system is comprised of a first lamp socket positioned in an operative position such that a lamp carried by that socket will be at a desired focal point of the optical system. At least one other lamp socket is positioned in an inoperative position. A mechanism for enabling movement of the first lamp socket from the operative position to an inoperative position while simultaneously moving the other lamp socket from the inoperative position to the operative position is provided. The present invention enables a failed lamp to be replaced by a backup lamp in such a manner that no degradation or change in optical performance occurs.

Current sensors are provided to monitor the flow of current through each of the lamps. When current is flowing through one lamp and its associated switch, a biasing network assures that the other switch remains open. Upon the failure of the energized lamp, the other lamp is energized, a motor is energized so that the other lamp may be moved to a desired position within the optical system, and a visible indication that the lamp has failed open is provided.

    摘要: A down lighting system for elevator cabs and the like includes halogen lights in standard and emergency light fixtures. Both types of fixtures are connected to the ceiling by a clamp arrangement which is universally adaptable to a wide variety of ceiling types without changing the light housing dimensions. The clamp arrangement fastens light housings against rotation with respect to the ceiling and it is adjustable to different height ceiling configurations merely by connection to different vertical positions of the outer surface of the fixture. The standard fixture includes a halogen bulb with its own reflector. The emergency lighting fixture includes a halogen bulb/reflector unit with the emergency self focusing bulbs concentrically spaced around it. Both light sources pass focused light directly into the space below the ceiling for meeting test point candle power requirements. The emergency lighting circuit includes a switching relay with a manually operated button for testing the emergency light source by pulling the button to override a relay armature.
