摘要： Retaining devices securable on firearms are selectively operable to engage and retain a bolt assembly in a substantially-fixed position for an indeterminate period of time. The retaining devices include a mounting plate securable to the receiver and a retention pin that extends through a passage in the mounting plate. The retention pin extends axially between first and second ends that project outwardly beyond the mounting plate. The retention pin is supported on the mounting plate for axial displacement between a first pin position and a second pin position. In the first pin position, the second end of the retention pin engages and retains the bolt assembly in a substantially-fixed position relative to the receiver. In the second pin position, the second end of the retention pin is disengaged from the bolt assembly.

A bolt carrier can have a bolt that has a double cut cam having an unlocking cam surface that has sufficient dwell increase to delay a start of unlocking when the bolt carrier is used in an M4 carbine. A stepped extractor pin may be provided that prevents disengagement of the extractor pin. A tube can be configured to provide gas from a barrel of the firearm to the piston via the carrier key. The tube can have a heat radiator formed from triangular shaped threads on at least a portion of the tube. A piston on the bolt and can have a plurality of rings including pairs of mating rings that are formed and maintained as a matched pair.

An operating rod assembly includes an operating rod, a lug positioned at a first end of the operating rod, and a firing pin retainer extending from the lug. A bolt carrier includes a bolt carrier pocket structured to receive the firing pin retainer, and a bolt carrier cam pin opening. A bolt is structured to be received in the bolt carrier. The bolt includes a bolt cam pin opening. A cam pin is structured to be positioned through the bolt carrier cam pin opening and into the bolt cam pin opening. The first end of the firing pin extends through a firing pin opening of the cam pin to retain the cam pin. The firing pin retainer of the operating rod assembly engages the second end of the firing pin so as to retain the firing pin.
