摘要: Provided is a fiber sizing agent including a vinyl ester resin (A), an epoxy compound (B), and an aqueous medium. The vinyl ester resin (A) has an alkoxy polyoxyalkylene structure and a urethane linkage. The fiber sizing agent exhibits excellent binding ability for various fibers, such as glass fibers and carbon fibers. Molded articles produced from a molding material including the fiber sizing agent have various excellent physical properties, and examples of the physical properties include flexural strength, compressive strength, and interlaminar shear strength. Accordingly, the molded articles can be used, for example, in automotive parts, aircraft parts, windmill parts, industrial parts, and the like.

摘要: A detectable scouring pad is provided that is made with a sparse unwoven base polymer that defines the pad shape, an overcoating of cured thermoset resin loaded with a particulate on the base polymer, the particulate present in an amount to render the polymer detectable by X-ray detection or magnetometer detection. A process of detecting a scouring pad includes forming a fiber composed of a base polymer having a cross-section and a length, and distributing a particulate on the thermoplastic polymer in a thermoset resin matrix. The process further includes forming a sparse unwoven thermoplastic polymer from the fiber, and manufacturing the scouring pad from the sparse unwoven polymer by overcoating the base polymer with a particulate loaded thermoset resin. The scouring pad is passed through an X-ray detector or a magnetometer detector, and a signal is collected from the detector indicative of the presence of the scouring pad.

摘要: A reinforcing fiber bundle is a continuous reinforcing fiber bundle having a length of at least 1 m and is characterized by the number of monofilaments per unit width being at most 1,600/mm and the average number of fibers in the bundle being at most 1,000 in a region (I), and the drape level found in a region (II) being 120-240 mm. The continuous reinforcing fiber bundle has a length of at least 1 m and is characterized by the adhesion amount of a sizing agent (I) in the region (I) being 0.5-10% by weight and the drape level found in the region (II) being 120-240 mm. The continuous reinforcing fiber bundle has superior mechanical properties, formability into complex shapes, and continuous producibility.

摘要: Methods to increase structural performance, strength, and durability of textile-reinforced composite materials are provided. The textile reinforcement may be knitted, for example, in a flat bed weft knitting machine. The method may include pre-stressing a textile reinforcement preform by applying tension. A polymeric precursor may be introduced to the pre-stressed textile reinforcement preform. The polymeric precursor may then be cured or consolidated, followed by releasing of the applied tension to form the composite article comprising polymer and the pre-stressed textile reinforcement. In other aspects, a composite article is provided that has a pre-stressed textile reinforcement structure and a cured polymer. The textile reinforcement may be a knitted, lightweight, seamless, unitary structure. The knitted reinforcement structure may have distinct first and second knitted regions with different levels of pre-stress, thus providing enhanced control over strength, rigidity, and flexibility of the composite article.
