Abstract:
A method of thermally spraying at least one adherent metallic coating onto an unroughened cleansed aluminum or aluminum alloy substrate to produce a coated substrate, comprising: wire-arc thermally spraying of melted metallic bonding droplets and fluxing particles onto the substrate using air propulsion to concurrently adherently deposit flux particles and bonding droplets, the spraying using air propulsion and a wire feedstock having a core and a sheath, the wire core being constituted of both metal powder readily metallurgically bondable to the substrate and a fluxing powder that readily deoxidizes the substrate, the wire sheath being constituted of pliable metal that is metallurgically compatible with the core metal powder, the fluxing powder having a halide salt chemistry effective to deoxidize the substrate upon contact of the melted fluxing powder therewith, said fluxing powder and bonding metal having a particle size that more uniformly promotes distribution throughout said spray. A flux cored wire for use in thermal spraying of aluminum or aluminum alloy substrates, comprising (a) a powder core mixture consisting of (i) a metal bonding powder effective to metallurgically bond by an exothermic reaction with the substrate when the bonding metal powder is in a melted condition, (ii) a fluxing powder effective to strip aluminum oxides from said substrates when in the melted condition, (b) a pliable metal sheath encapsulating the powder mixture and having a composition that is metallurgically compatible with the bonding metal and also is effective to react with aluminum surfaces to form intermetallics.
Abstract:
A method of fluxing a cast light-weight metal substrate for thermally adhering sprayed metallic coatings thereto, comprising: (a) preparing the substrate to be clean of grease and oil and to have a uniform and homogeneous surface energy; (b) electrostatically depositing a dry flux powder coating onto such prepared surface; and (c) thermally depositing melted metal onto and across the flux coated surface to further thermally activate the flux if not already activated, for stripping away any substrate oxides and to thermally metallurgically bond the deposited molten metal to the substrate.
Abstract:
A multi-element antenna feed method and system which has superior side lobe characteristics over previous electronically scanned beam approaches is provided. A multi-element antenna feed system generally comprises a multi-element antenna, an antenna array processor, a receiver, a signal processor for automatic tracking of targets, and an antenna steering control mechanism. The multi-element antenna may comprise alternate configurations and the antenna array processor is coupled to the multi-element antenna. The antenna array processor particularly comprises a diode switching array for combining at least one output of the elements of the multi-element antenna with at least one other output of the multi-element antenna switchably selected via the diode switching array. The method allows control of the antenna system side lobes in both the scanned offset beam plane and the orthogonal plane by an amplitude weighted combination of the selected element beams. This results in an improved capability to reduce crosstalk betwen two orthogonal tracking channels, offset beam control versus frequency, and a wide frequency bandwidth.
Abstract:
A method for screening bacteria to select strains which will suppress diseases caused by the fungus Gaeumannomyces graminis (Gg) under field conditions and a method for applying field-suppressive bacteria to suppress Gg in a commercial setting. Four fluorescens Pseudomonas strains are disclosed which are effective in suppressing take-all in wheat.
Abstract:
A method and composition for reducing or alleviating inflammation in a subject is provided, including administering to the subject a therapeutically effective amount; of one or more isolated proteins respectively comprising an amino acid sequence set forth in SEQ ID NOS:1-31, or a biologically active fragment or variant thereof or combinations of these to thereby reduce or alleviate inflammation. Inflammation may be associated with a disease is a disease of the digestive tract such as chronic gastritis or an inflammatory bowel disease such as Crohn's disease or ulcerative colitis, or a disease of the respiratory system, such as asthma, emphysema, chronic bronchitis, and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease.

Abstract:
A combination tool for installing and crimping a cleat for fastening sections of ductwork, and for adjusting the threaded on support rods of strut channel for leveling the ductwork. The tool has an installing plate for holding a cleat and a removable handle that threads to the back of the installing plate. The handle has a hollow tubular body with a nut driver formed in the other end, for engaging and driving a threaded nut. The nut driver end is made by milling a rectangular slot transverse the axis of the hollow tubular body to form a pair of nut-engaging. A shank can be provided for attachment to the chuck of a power drill for rapid driving of the nuts. The tool also has a hinged crimping plate with threaded set screws for crimping the cleat securely to the flanges of the ductwork.
Abstract:
A security sensor system comprises one or more laser detection and ranging (LADAR) sensors configured for accumulation of three-dimensional image data. In one embodiment, the one or more LADAR sensors each comprise a LADAR device, such as a MEMS device, configured to transmit a plurality of laser pulses, and a microprocessor operatively coupled to the LADAR device. One or more data storage devices is operatively coupled to the microprocessor and configured to store the three-dimensional image data, as well as predetermined protected area boundary and fixed object definitions. A GPS receiver can be operatively coupled to the microprocessor and a GPS antenna. The microprocessor is configured to perform a LADAR image analysis that compares the three-dimensional image data with the protected area boundary and fixed object definitions to identify one or more potential intruders.
