Abstract: A system for generating an image for passengers in a vehicle includes a display adapted to project an image, a polarization rotator actuatable to rotate the polarization of an image to one of S-polarization and P-polarization, a reflector unit adapted to reflect S-polarized images to a first beam splitter, and to reflect P-polarized images to a second beam splitter, each of the first and second beam splitters adapted to receive an image and to reflect the image to an associated passenger, and a controller in communication with the display and the polarization rotator, the controller adapted to simultaneously actuate the display to alternate between projecting a first image and a second image, actuate the polarization rotator to alternate between rotating the polarization of an image to S-polarization and P-polarization, and synchronize the display and the polarization rotator.

Abstract: A hybrid augmented reality head-up display system for displaying graphics upon a windscreen of a vehicle includes a windscreen having a transparent substrate including light emitting particles dispersed within, a primary graphic projection device for generating a first set of images upon the windscreen of the vehicle based on visible light, and a secondary graphic projection device for generating a second set of images upon a secondary area the windscreen of the vehicle based on an excitation light. The first set of images are displayed upon a primary area of the windscreen. The light emitting particles in the windscreen emit visible light in response to absorbing the excitation light. The first set of images displayed upon the primary area of the windscreen cooperate with the second set of images displayed upon the secondary area of the windscreen to create an edge-to-edge augmented reality view.

Abstract: A glare mitigation module for a head-up display system is configured to transmit display light emitted from an illumination device therethrough. The glare mitigation module comprises an input surface through which the display light from the illumination device enters the glare mitigation module and an output surface through which the display light from the illumination device exits the glare mitigation module in a display direction. The glare mitigation module further comprises a diffractive optical element comprising a plurality of layers stacked successively between the input and output surfaces, with the plurality of layers arranged to transmit the display light of the illumination device therethrough and to diffract an external light that enters the glare mitigation module through the output surface. The diffractive optical element is arranged to diffract the external light in a diffracted direction away from eyes of an occupant.

Abstract: A head-up display system of a vehicle visually transmits information to eyes of an occupant. The head-up display system comprises an illumination device configured to emit a display light and a windshield spaced from the illumination device and extending transverse to the display light. The head-up display system comprises a holographic panel coupled to and extending with the windshield and arranged to diffract the display light toward the eyes of the occupant. The display light emits toward the holographic panel in an entrance direction at an entrance angle relative to an axis normal to the holographic panel and diffracts away from the holographic panel in an exit direction at an exit angle relative to the axis, which is different than the entrance angle.

Abstract: A head-up display for displaying graphics upon a windscreen of a vehicle includes a graphic projection module for generating one or more graphic images upon the windscreen of the vehicle, a forward-facing camera collecting image data representative of a view of a surrounding environment of the vehicle visible through the windscreen, an ambient light sensor detecting a level of ambient light present in the surrounding environment of the vehicle, and one or more controllers in electronic communication with the graphic projection module, the forward-facing camera, and the ambient light sensor. The one or more controllers executes instructions to determine the level of ambient light present in the surrounding environment of the vehicle based on an ambient light signal, and adjusts a saturation level of one or more colors of the one or more graphic images generated by the graphic projection module based on the level of ambient light.

Abstract: A route conflict with emergency vehicle identification system includes an infrastructure receiving vehicle location, speed and trajectory information of an emergency vehicle. An automobile vehicle is in communication with the infrastructure and receives the vehicle location, speed and trajectory information of the emergency vehicle. A navigation system of the automobile vehicle operates using global positioning system (GPS) data and preloaded map data to generate a map identifying at least one roadway and a potential conflict on the at least one roadway between projected paths of the emergency vehicle and the automobile vehicle on the at least one roadway. A head-up display or a head-down display of the automobile vehicle visually presents the potential conflict.

Abstract: A multi-view display device is provided for a collaborative co-pilot system (system) of a vehicle having a windshield. The system includes one or more input devices for generating an input signal associated with a road condition. The multi-view display device includes one or more single-user viewing devices, with each single-user viewing device including an Augmented Reality Head Up Display module (ARHUD) for generating a dedicated display associated with the road condition. The ARHUD projects the dedicated display onto an associated portion of the windshield that is visible to a corresponding single user and overlaying a road geometry associated with the road condition. The multi-view display device further includes an Extended View Display module (EV display module) for generating a common display that is visible to a plurality of users including each one of the single users.

Abstract: A holographic display system for a motor vehicle includes a light source for generating a beam of coherent light and a spatial light modulator (SLM) having a two-dimensional pixel array. The two-dimensional pixel array modulates the beam of coherent light for generating a plurality of subframes, with each subframe being associated with one of a plurality of partial fields of view. The system further includes a scanner for directing the subframes onto associated sections of a display surface. The system further includes a computer having a memory including instructions, such that a processor is programmed to control the two-dimensional pixel array of the SLM for generating the subframes. The processor is further programmed to control the scanner for directing the subframes onto associated sections of the display surface and displaying a reconstructed image within a full field of view, which includes each of the partial fields of view.
