摘要： In order to provided information for helping a viewing user remember the contents of past viewing of a video program, in an easy-to-comprehend form and in as small an information amount as possible, a video terminal device capable of controlling video playback by a controller stores a position of the video program at which it was interrupted by the user. The interrupted position is stored in a video library of a video server. Images representative of a portion from the start or another position of the interrupted video program up to the interrupted position are extracted by a video digest making program. The extracted representative images are represented by a list display based on reduced icons or a digest image. The list or the digest image is displayed before resuming the interrupted video program.

摘要： The present invention provides a thin personal identification device that produces a high-quality image. The personal identification device includes an infrared light source 30; a transmission light quantity control element array 40, which includes a plurality of light transmission control elements for exercising control to transmit or block light that is radiated from the infrared light source 30 to a living body; and a light receiving element array 50H, which includes a plurality of light receiving elements for receiving light that is radiated from the living body. The infrared light source 30, transmission light quantity control element array 40, and light receiving element array 50H are positioned on the same side of the living body. A microcomputer 20 controls the transmission light quantity control element array 40 to combine a first image, which is obtained from the living body when one region of the living body is radiated with light transmitted from the infrared light source 30, with a second image, which is obtained when another region of the living body is radiated, and identifies a person in accordance with the combined image.

摘要： An economical surveillance apparatus robust to an environmental change includes an input unit for inputting images in a time series, a background image memory unit for storing a plurality of input images, a difference image memory unit for calculating and storing difference degree between a plurality of background images of the background image memory unit and an image inputted afresh, and a judging unit for judging an existence/absence of an invading object by utilizing the value of the difference degree of the difference image memory unit. This surveillance apparatus can automatically register a plurality of background images from a camera image. Since the background images that are no longer used are automatically erased, the drop of detection speed and detection sensitivity can be prevented.

摘要： A method of characterizing a video includes the steps of extracting frame images from an input video, calculating a time length between each of the frame images and a next one of the frame images, assigning index information determined by the calculated time length to each of the frame images, stringing together the index information assigned to the frame images, and characterizing the input video by the strung-together index information. The index information is a character code, and the strung-together index information is a character code string. The frame images include head frame images located at scene changes of the input video. The input video is being broadcasted or is included in a data base.

摘要： This invention relates to an associated video retrieving method and a method therefor which enable a user to freely and easily make associated video retrieval. Video display apparatus having a video display region for visualizing video, an index display region for displaying index information of the videos, point detection unit for detecting a point position for these display regions, object management unit for registering in advance matters or sound in an animation appearing in the video, and control unit for determining a condition of the video to be next playbacked from point information obtained by the point detection unit and from logical structure description of the video separately built up, are provided. Even when a desired scene cannot be specified from the index information, a scene in which any hints relating to the desired scene is found out and associated video retrieval is effected on the basis of such a scene so as to finally obtain the desired scene. Versatile video retrieval can be made by unitedly using each display.

摘要： A method and apparatus for displaying a representative image corresponding to a shot of a duration within a specified range included in a plurality of shots of a moving image. The moving image includes a plurality of successive frames each having an image and each shot includes a plurality of the successive frames. In the invention a plurality of shot change points are sequentially detected from the moving image. The shot change points represent points between a pair of frames where images of a preceding shot and images of a succeeding shot have changed. Thereafter a detection is performed to determine whether a duration of a shot between a preceding shot change point and a succeeding shot change point is within the specified range. A representative image corresponding to the shot having a duration within the specified range is displayed along with duration time information representing the duration of the shot. A reduced image from the shot can be displayed as the representative image and the number of detected shots having a duration within the specified range can be reduced according to preset conditions.

The representative image which is newly added for display is a representative image of a scene distanced for a given time in conformance to the command which is inputted.

The interval of the video corresponding to the start point and the end point is registered in terms of a number identify a frame constituting a part of the motion pictures.
