The electric motor driving the fluid pumping section (44) receives energy from the vehicle (10) only in response to a need for braking. The brake booster (28) includes a fluid pressure accumulator (147) providing pressurized fluid to the booster section (42) during a brake application. The accumulator (147) also provides for power-assisted braking in the event of a failure of the motor-driven pumping section (44).

    摘要: The disclosure concerns an anti-skid brake control system of the kind which senses the presence of skid conditions at a hydraulically braked wheel and then automatically relieves the brake pressure at that wheel by expanding the volume of a chamber connected to the wheel brake. In the system disclosed, a regulator is connected in a high pressure fluid supply line so as to control the rate at which the volume of the chamber is reduced on cessation of the skid conditions, thereby controlling the rate at which the brakes are re-applied. In the particular embodiment described, the regulator comprises a cup-shaped piston reciprocable within a cylinder bore. A first restriction of predetermined size is defined by the end wall of the piston and a second restriction of variable size is formed between a number of radial ports in the bore wall and an annular recess in the outside of the piston, this recess being permanently connected to the inner space of the piston. Fluid flows from the variable restriction to the predetermined restriction and a pressure difference is produced across the predetermined restriction. Any increase in this pressure difference causes the piston to move against the action of a compression spring to restrict the size of the variable restriction, thereby regulating the flow of fluid to a predetermined value.

The valve member comprises a unitary assembly having a sleeve sealingly engaging the wall of the piston passage, a seat member biased into engagement with a shoulder defined by a stepped bore on the sleeve, and a stem extending through a bore on the seat member.

    摘要: An hydraulic pressure converter comprises a differential piston which works in a stepped bore in a housing. A pressure space is defined in the housing at the end of a portion of the piston which is of smaller area so that reciprocation of the piston in the bore causes hydraulic fluid to be drawn into the pressure space through a first one-way valve and then pumped to an outlet through a second one-way valve. Reciprocation of the piston is accomplished by subjecting the piston to pressure from a pump to move the piston in a first direction away from a stop face and against the force in a compression spring so that hydraulic fluid is drawn into the pressure space. A valve assembly is operative to reduce the force urging the piston in the first direction when the displacement attains a predetermined value whereafter the spring is operative to urge the piston in a second opposite direction to force fluid to the outlet from the pressure space.

    摘要: A hydraulic brake booster is disclosed which includes an integral accumulator to provide a fluid pressure source for emergency failsafe braking. The accumulator includes a bore defined within the booster housing, and a piston slidably mounted in the bore which divides the latter into a pair of fluid compartments between opposite ends of the piston and corresponding ends of the bore. One of the compartments is communicated to the booster inlet port so that the compartment is charged with fluid pressure whenever the pressure level at the inlet port is above some predetermined low value. In one embodiment of the invention, the other compartment is communicated to the fluid pressure reservoir, and a relief valve is carried within the piston which controls flow of fluid between the two compartments. In the other embodiment of the invention, the relief valve is installed in the passage communicating the inlet port to the one compartment, so that when the fluid pressure level in the one compartment reaches a predetermined value, the one compartment is vented to the inlet port. Therefore, when the pressure level in the one compartment reaches some predetermined, relatively high value, the relief valve opens to vent the one compartment, thereby limiting the pressure level in the one compartment to the predetermined level. When a failure occurs in the primary pressure source which normally operates the booster, communication between the pressure chamber and the one compartment is opened, to use the fluid pressure content of the latter to operate the booster.
