    Abstract: A turnover apparatus and method for inverting articles such as lumber or board pieces being conveyed sideways on two or more conveyor chain loops in which each article is advanced on the conveyor chain loops by speed up belts engaging the underside of the articles to force a leading side against a pair of lugs mounted on a respective conveyor chain loop, the article thereafter flipped up to an on edge position by flipper arms also mounted on the conveyor chain loops which each engage an adjustable cam ramp at a turnover station, the article thereafter tipped over backward by being driven by the speed belts against an elevated overhung trailing edge on the lugs to complete the turnover. Optional pivoted let down elements may be arranged to engage the trailing side of the articles to controllably lower the same by motion induced by a second cam ramp at the turnover station.

The present invention discloses a log singulator having a fully rotatable lifter arm member, i.e., 360 degrees rotatable, which is used to singulate logs from groups of logs. The rotatable axle of the lifter arm may be located above the upstream “V” of the log cradle member. Furthermore, the lifter arm of the present invention will positively push the logs over the top point of the log cradle because it is rounded at the top point, thereby allowing the tip of lifter arm to remain in contact with the log.     Abstract: The invention is an automatic, unmanned, powered, variable speed transfer table for a finger joint machine which receives a controlled supply of blocks from a lineal block feeder. The slat chain is composed of two chain loops, connected at regular, equal intervals by slats. The slat chain pushes blocks over an even ending conveyor which aligns them to the inside of one of the chains and then over a moisture detecting system. Blocks containing unacceptable moisture fall through a gap in the working table while blocks with acceptable moisture are pushed by the slats over a door covering the gap and onto an outfeed table. The slats are synchronized to the lugs on the finger joint machine's lug chain and deposit correctly aligned and orientated blocks precisely on the lug chain. The slat chain then rotates upward and loops back over the working table and then down, under the infeed conveyor to re-emerge at the even ending conveyor.

    Abstract: A lumber stacking apparatus 10 is described for forming a stack 12 of layers 14 of boards with stickers placed transversely between the layers. The apparatus 10 has a reciprocating arm structure 50 for successively picking up layers from an elevated surface and moving the layers over to a stacking station where the layers are stripped from the arm structure 50 as the arm structure 50 is retracted. The arm structure 50 has lifting arms 56 with open channels 64 formed therein to receive the stickers 16. A sticker distribution conveyor 160 extends along the rear of the apparatus to distribute stickers to spaced sticker stations 164 corresponding to the lifting arms 56. The sticker transfer conveyor 170 has a sticker feeding subassembly 174 for engaging the forward end of the stickers and moving the stickers toward the channels 64 at a speed slower than the average reciprocating speed of the arm structure.

    Abstract: A lumber turning device for use with a conveyer having spaced apart lumber moving therealong whereby the lumber may be turned through 180° so that all faces of the lumber may be visually inspected. A first arrangement has a four lobed member whereby a first one of the lobes will extend upwardly above the conveyer with a front surface facing a first lumber piece such that when the locked first lumber piece contacts the front surface of the first one of the lobes, the member will rotate and a rear face of an adjacent lobe will lift the lumber piece to rotate the same through 180°. Other embodiments illustrate members which may turn alternate pieces of lumber.
