摘要:
A duplex projectile cartridge system (e.g., 400) for use in a standard rifle (e.g., 10) has a front bullet (e.g., 320) and a substantially cylindrical back bullet (e.g., 440) coaxially aligned with one another. The front bullet's base is held in the cartridge case neck far enough to engage the back bullet's front surface so that the case neck simultaneously bears upon the front bullet and the back bullet. Optionally, the cartridge configuration orients the back bullet and defines one or more gas bypass lumens to allow expanding gas to initially bypass the back bullet and drive the front bullet distally to force an inter-bullet gap (e.g., “IBG” 480) upon firing.

Projectiles with sealed propellant are described herein. In one embodiment of the invention, a projectile includes a body having a nose portion and a tail portion, a plurality of propellant charges contained within the body, a plurality of selectable initiators contained within the body for ignition of respective propellant charges, one or more ports for exit of ignition gases produced by the charges for propulsion of the projectile from the weapon, and one or more inductors for inducing a firing current, where at least one initiator only initiates on receiving a firing current which is different from the firing signal required to initiate the other initiators.

A gun cartridge such as a shotgun shell wherein the pellet load is contained in a projectile consisting of a frangible casing and a MV element wherein the MV element imparts long range travel and accuracy to the projectile and wherein the frangible casing readily breaks apart on impact with the target and allows the pellets to disperse in typical array.

Shotshell type ammunition includes a hull, a wad member disposed within the hull, and at least one projectile disposed within at least partially the hull. The hull has a rimless proximal end that includes a primer for firing the ammunition. The hull also has a seat surface for seating the hull against a complementary seat surface in a firing chamber of a firearm. The seat surface is located a distance from an outer end surface of the hull at the rimless proximal end. The hull further includes an outer side surface extending from the rimless proximal end of the hull to the seat surface of the hull. Methods of fabricating such ammunition include forming such a hull, and providing a wad member and one or more projectiles at least partially within the hull.

Shot shell payloads that include a plurality of large projectiles and shot shells including the same are disclosed herein. The shot shell payloads include a plurality of large projectiles and at least one spacer that is formed from a different material than the large projectiles. A spacer is located between adjacent large projectiles and/or separates adjacent large projectiles. Disclosed shot shell payloads also may include one or more end spacers that are positioned to contact just one large projectile or the plurality of large projectiles in the payload.

This disclosure relates to cartridges, including shotshell cartridges, for launching multiplex projectile loads that contain different sizes or types of projectiles, and methods of loading the cartridges. In one aspect, for example, the present cartridges can contain an obturating component adjacent the cartridge propellant, a first payload adjacent the obturating component, a separating component adjacent the first payload, and a second payload adjacent the separating component. Shotshells of this configuration in which the first (aft) payload comprises birdshot and the second (forward) payload comprises buckshot are particularly useful.

The present invention relates to stackable projectiles having a warhead and a propulsion unit. An adaptor enables the warhead to be coupled to propulsion units made of different materials. Furthermore, an adaptor couples different profiles of warheads and propulsion units and allows projectiles to be stacked without need for design modifications. The assembled projectile can be fired electrically or mechanically.

An ignition arrangement for a barrel assembly (10) including a barrel (11) having a plurality of projectiles (15a, 15b, 15c) axially stacked within the barrel (11) together with respective propellant charges (20) for propelling the projectiles sequentially from the barrel, said ignition arrangement including a fuse (21, 22) disposed in a cavity (27) provided in a body (18) of each projectile, wherein the cavity (27) communicates both forwardly (28) and rearwardly (29) of the projectile body (18); whereby in use, said fuse (21) burns at a controlled rate in the cavity (27) and causes ignition of the propellant charge (20) associated with said projectile (15a), which in turn ignites the next following fuse (22) associated with a trailing projectile (15b).
摘要:
A barrel assembly for a weapon, said barrel assembly including a barrel; a plurality of projectile assemblies axially disposed in end to end abutting relationship within said barrel for operative sealing engagement with the bore of the barrel, each projectile including a projectile head and an integral cylindrical spacer portion extending axially and rearwardly from said projectile head; discrete propellant charges accommodated within said cylindrical spacer portion for propelling respective projectile assemblies sequentially through the muzzle of the barrel; ignition means for igniting said discrete propellant charges; and control means for selectively and sequentially actuating the ignition means. In one form, each projectile assembly further includes an internal wedging surface, at or adjacent the trailing end of said cylindrical extension which accommodates a tapered nose part of a following projectile, for expanding said trailing end into enhanced sealing engagement with the barrel upon engagement of said wedging surface With said tapered nose part.

A weapon for accurately launching a projectile of a firearm toward a target and no other point of strike, comprising an electrically-actuated firearm with axially-stacked ammunition loads, a target sensor unit which generates a target sensor signal at such times as the projected bullet's point of strike and the projected target position coincide; a fire controller which generates a firing signal when both a trigger signal and a target sensor signal are present; and a sequence controller actuated by the firing signal to ignite one or more of the axially stacked ammunition loads to cause the projectile to strike the projected location of a target.
