Abstract: A base station (BS) may transmit, and a user equipment (UE) may receive, a physical channel, such as a narrowband physical downlink control channel (NPDCCH) or a narrowband physical downlink shared channel (NPDSCH). In an interference-limited scenario in a network, it may be desirable to perform additional processing to introduce interference randomization into the control channel to ensure that the UE can recover data of the control channel. Some types of UEs, such as legacy UEs, may not be capable of recovering the control channel when the additional processing is performed. In some aspects, the BS may identify a type of UE associated with a cell, and may transmit a physical channel processed using a processing scheme selected based at least in part on the type of UE associated with the cell.

Abstract: Techniques described herein use a wakeup signal to indicate to a user equipment (UE) whether an upcoming control channel signal resource includes information relevant to the UE. In this way, the UE can wake up to perform complex control channel signal processing only when the control channel includes signals relevant to the UE, thereby conserving battery power and resources of the UE. Such techniques are particularly suited to MTC UEs, NB-IoT UEs, and/or the like, which may communicate with a network only occasionally, and which may be located in remote locations where changing or recharging a battery is difficult.

Abstract: There is a need to support narrowband TDD frame structure for narrowband communications. The present disclosure provides a solution by supporting one or more narrowband TDD frame structure(s) for narrowband communications. In an aspect of the disclosure, a method, a computer-readable medium, and an apparatus are provided. In one aspect, the apparatus may receive information associated with a narrowband TDD frame structure for narrowband communications, the narrowband TDD frame structure including a set of contiguous uplink subframes. The apparatus may also determine an orthogonal sequence length associated with a reference signal (RS) based on at least one of a number of uplink subframes or a number of slots in the set of contiguous uplink subframes. In addition, the apparatus may transmit the RS using the determined orthogonal sequence length.

Abstract: In an aspect of the disclosure, a method, a computer-readable medium, and an apparatus are provided. The apparatus may determine a narrowband TDD frame structure of a group of narrowband TDD frame structures for narrowband communications. The apparatus may transmit a series of repetitions of a narrowband physical downlink channel using the narrowband TDD frame structure. In one aspect, a first portion of repetitions from the series of repetitions may be transmitted in one or more first sets of downlink subframes using a first scrambling sequence. In one aspect, a second portion of repetitions from the series of repetitions may be transmitted in one or more second sets of downlink subframes using a second scrambling sequence.

In an aspect of the disclosure, a method, a computer-readable medium, and an apparatus are provided. The apparatus may determine a narrowband communication frame structure comprising a FDD frame structure or a TDD frame structure and a narrowband TDD frame structure configuration for narrowband communications from a group of narrowband TDD frame structures configurations. The apparatus may determine one or more narrowband carriers and subframes within the one or more narrowband carriers to transmit at least one of a BCH or a SIB1 based on the narrowband communication frame structure or the TDD frame structure configuration. The apparatus may transmit a PSS, an SSS, and at least one of a BCH or an SIB1 using the narrowband TDD frame structure determined for the narrowband communications. In one aspect, a carrier used for transmitting the BCH and/or the SIB may be different than a carrier used to transmit one or more of the PSS or the SSS. In another aspect, a narrowband carrier used for transmitting the BCH may be different than a narrowband carrier used to transmit one or more of the PSS or the SSS.

In an aspect of the disclosure, a method, a computer-readable medium, and an apparatus are provided. The apparatus may determine a narrowband TDD frame structure for narrowband communications from a group of narrowband TDD frame structures. In one aspect, the narrowband TDD frame structure may include a set of downlink subframes and more than one special subframe. The apparatus may determine a set of narrowband carriers and a minimum set of subframes on the set of narrowband carriers based at least in part on the set of downlink subframes and more than one special subframe on which a NRS should be transmitted. The apparatus may transmit the NRS using the narrowband TDD frame structure determined for the narrowband communications.

Abstract: Certain aspects of the present disclosure provide techniques for hopping design for larger bandwidth allocations in enhanced machine type communications (eMTC). A method of wireless communication by a user equipment (UE) is provided. The method generally includes receiving a resource allocation for uplink transmission in at least one subframe. The resource allocation includes a set of allocated subframes and configuration information for frequency hopping. The method includes determining allocated frequency hopped resources, within a system bandwidth, for each subframe of the set of allocated subframes. The method includes including a center resource block (RB) in addition to the determined allocated frequency hopped resources if the determined allocated frequency hopped resources include resources around the center RB. The method includes removing a last RB from the determined allocated frequency hopped resources if the determined allocated frequency hopped resources include resources around the center RB.

Abstract: A method, an apparatus, and a computer program product for wireless communication are provided in which a scrambling sequence vector pair associated with a scrambling sequence matrix with a high level of frequency domain orthogonalization is determined. A spreading sequence vector pair associated with a spreading sequence matrix with a low level of time domain orthogonalization is determined. An orthogonal cover code (OCC) matrix is generated by assigning the determined scrambling sequence vector pair to the determined spreading sequence vector pair. The OCC may be applied to one or more demodulation reference signals associated with a set of resource blocks for transmission.
