Abstract: Aspects of the disclosure relate to techniques for mitigating the decoding errors observed at the receiver as a result of puncturing symbols between consecutive subframes having the same transmission direction. To reduce the decoding errors, a plurality of transmission options, each including a number of resource blocks and a modulation and coding scheme (MCS), may be identified. In addition, each transmission option may be associated with one or more puncturing patterns that hinder decoding of a codeword at the receiver. The base station or user equipment (UE) may then select or modify at least one aspect of a scheduling decision involving the communication of the codeword in a given subframe of at least two consecutive subframes to minimize decoding errors. For example, a selected puncturing pattern or a transport block size associated with a selected transmission option may be modified.

Abstract: There is a need to support narrowband TDD frame structure for narrowband communications. The present disclosure provides a solution by supporting one or more narrowband TDD frame structure(s) for narrowband communications. In an aspect of the disclosure, a method, a computer-readable medium, and an apparatus are provided. The apparatus may determine to transmit a narrowband physical downlink channel in a subframe in a narrowband TDD frame structure of a plurality of narrowband TDD frame structures for narrowband communications. In addition, the apparatus may determine whether the subframe is a special subframe or a downlink subframe when the narrowband TDD frame structure includes one or more special subframes. Further, the apparatus may determine how to transmit a narrowband physical downlink channel based on the determination whether the subframe is a special subframe or a downlink subframe. Additionally, the apparatus may transmit the narrowband physical downlink channel.

The apparatus may determine a TDD frame structure for the narrowband communications from a group of narrowband TDD frame structures. In one aspect, at least one common subframe in each narrowband TDD frame structure in the group of narrowband TDD frame structures may be configured as a downlink subframe. The apparatus may transmit a PSS using the at least one common subframe in the narrowband TDD frame structure determined for the narrowband communications.

Abstract: In an aspect of the disclosure, a method, a computer-readable medium, and an apparatus are provided. The apparatus may determine a TDD frame structure of a group of TDD frame structures for narrowband communications. The apparatus may transmit a series of repetitions of a narrowband physical downlink channel using the narrowband TDD frame structure. In one aspect, a first portion of repetitions from the series of repetitions may be transmitted in one or more first sets of downlink subframes using a first scrambling sequence. In one aspect, a second portion of repetitions from the series of repetitions may be transmitted in one or more second sets of downlink subframes using a second scrambling sequence.

Abstract: Various features related to frequency hopping for broadcast/multicast transmissions for narrow band devices are described. To exploit frequency diversity, multicast transmissions may be frequency hopped. In an aspect, a UE maybe configured to receive a signal, e.g., from a base station, including at least one of a first hopping indicator indicating whether frequency hopping is enabled for a multicast control channel or a second hopping indicator indicating whether frequency hopping is enabled for a multicast traffic channel, and determine whether frequency hopping is enabled for the at least one of the multicast control or traffic channel based on the received signal. The UE may further determine at least one hopping pattern for receiving multicast transmissions in the at least one of the multicast control channel or the multicast traffic channel when the frequency hopping is enabled, and receive the multicast transmissions based on the determined at least one hopping pattern.

Abstract: Aspects of the present disclosure relate to methods and apparatus for optimizing real time services (e.g., such as a voice over Long Term Evolution (LTE) (VoLTE)) for devices with limited communications resources, such as machine type communication (MTC) devices and enhanced MTC (eMTC) devices. In one aspect, a UE determines a first configuration of subframes within at least one radio frame available for the UE and other UEs to use for bundled communications with a BS. The UE receives an indication of one or more subframes within the at least one radio frame that are unavailable for bundled uplink transmissions, and determines a second configuration of subframes to use for bundled communications based on the indication. The UE overrides the first configuration of subframes with the second configuration of subframes, and communicates with the BS using the second configuration of subframes. Abstract: Techniques and apparatus for transmission and reception with partial allocation in orthogonal frequency division multiple access (OFDMA)/single-carrier frequency division multiple access (SC-FDMA) systems are provided. One technique includes determining first parameter(s) to apply to transmission/receive processing of a signal, based in part on a resource allocation for the signal. The resource allocation is partitioned out of a larger system bandwidth. Second parameter(s) to apply to the transmission/receive processing are determined based at least in part on the first parameter(s). Transmission/receive processing of the signal is performed in accordance with the first and second parameters.

Abstract: Methods, systems, and devices for wireless communications are described. Generally, the described techniques provide for improving communications between a user equipment (UE) and a base station in a shared radio frequency spectrum while the UE is operating in a discontinuous reception (DRX) mode. In particular, the UE may be configured to adapt operation in a DRX mode based on whether a base station has access to a shared radio frequency spectrum. For example, the UE may adjust a length of an on-duration for monitoring for a data transmission from the base station, adjust a periodicity for monitoring for control information from the base station, determine whether to keep monitoring for wake-up signaling from the base station, etc. based on whether the base station has access to the shared radio frequency spectrum. Further techniques for improving operation in a DRX mode are also described.
