    Abstract: A method of transmitting data in a telecommunications system comprising a terminal transmitting a first random access request message to the base station in accordance with the first random access procedure for transmitting the data to the base station, the first random access request message comprising at least part of the data and a first preamble; and upon determination that the use of the first random access procedure has been unsuccessful, the terminal transmitting a second random access request message to the base station in accordance with the second random access procedure for transmitting the data to the base station, the second random access request message comprising a second preamble.

    Abstract: A communications device configured to transmit signals representing data to one or more in-coverage communications devices forming with the communications device a group, one of the in-coverage communications devices acting as an active relay node for the communications device, so that the in-coverage communications device can transmit signals representing the data to the infrastructure equipment of the mobile communications network, and to receive signals representing the data from the in-coverage communications device acting as the active relay node. The signals transmitted to the in-coverage communications device are received according to a device-to-device communications protocol, wherein the signals transmitted by the communications device or received by the communications device include an identifier which identifies the signals to the in-coverage communications device. One of the other in-coverage communications device can be selected by the infrastructure equipment to act as the active relay node.

    Abstract: A method of operating first and second terminal devices for transmitting data in a device-to-device communication mode in a wireless telecommunications system supporting communications on a first carrier operating over a first frequency band and a second carrier operating over a second frequency band. The first terminal device transmits control signalling on the first carrier and this is received by the second terminal device. The control signalling comprises an indication of an allocation of radio resource blocks on the second carrier to be used for transmitting user-plane data from the first terminal device to the second terminal device. The first terminal device then proceeds to transmit the user-plane data to the second terminal device on the second carrier using the radio resource blocks on the second carrier identified by the control signalling. The control signalling may also provide an indication of an allocation of radio resource blocks on the first carrier to be used for transmitting user-plane data to the second terminal device.

    Abstract: A communications device and method of communicating using a communications device is disclosed for transmitting data to a mobile communications network or receiving data from a mobile communications network. The communications device comprises a transmitter configured to transmit signals representing data to an infrastructure equipment of a mobile communications network via a first wireless access interface, a receiver configured to receive signals from the infrastructure equipment of the mobile communications network via the first wireless access interface, and a controller. The controller controls the transmitter and the receiver to transmit data to the infrastructure equipment in accordance with a synchronous process in which a synchronized response is received from the infrastructure equipment, or to receive data from the infrastructure equipment in accordance with a synchronous process in which a synchronized response is transmitted to the infrastructure equipment. The controller is configured in combination with the transmitter and the receiver to transmit signals via a second wireless access interface to a communications apparatus operating as a relay node, the signals being for transmission to the infrastructure equipment by the communications apparatus as if the signals were transmitted by the communications device via the first wireless communications interface, to receive signals from the infrastructure via the first wireless access interface, to determine an additional delay caused by the transmission of the signals to the communications apparatus acting as the relay node via the second wireless access interface compared with a time taken which would have been taken to transmit the signals to the infrastructure equipment as if transmitted via the first wireless access interface, and to transmit to the infrastructure equipment an indication from which the infrastructure equipment can derive the determined additional delay for adjusting the transmission or reception of the synchronized response. By arranging for the communications device to determine the additional delay and to communicate the additional delay via the relay node to the infrastructure equipment, the infrastructure equipment can adjust the timing of transmitting or receiving the synchronous response to take account of the additional delay.

    Abstract: A communications system communicating data to/from a communications terminal includes plural wireless communications networks to transmit/receive signals to/from the communications terminal via wireless access interfaces. The communications terminal receives from an access server selection information for selecting one of the wireless communications networks, for transmitting or receiving the data in accordance with the selection information in combination with one or more determined measurements of the wireless access interface of the wireless communications networks. The access server includes an indication of a preferred communications characteristic for transmitting or receiving the signals representing the data, and in accordance with the preferred communications characteristic the communications terminal adapts the determined measurements and selects one of the wireless communications networks which most closely satisfy the preferred communications characteristic in accordance with the adapted-determined measurements.

    Abstract: A wireless telecommunication system includes base stations for communicating with terminal devices. One or more base stations support a power boost operating mode in which a base station's available transmission power is concentrated in a subset of its available transmission resources to provide enhanced transmission powers as compared to transmission powers on these transmission resources when the base station is not operating in the power boost mode. A base station establishes an extent to which one or more base stations in the wireless telecommunications system supporting the power boost operating mode conveys an indication of this to a terminal device. The terminal device receives the indication and uses the corresponding information to control its acquisition of a base station of the wireless telecommunication system, for example by taking account of which base stations support power boosting and/or when power boosting is supported during a cell attach procedure.
