Abstract: Described is a system for storing and retrieving a memory in context. A memory formed for a given context is encoded in a neural model of the entorhinal-hippocampal system, forming a context-appropriate memory. The context-appropriate memory is comprised of an association between presented environmental cues and presence of a rewarded event. The system is able to discriminate between environmental cues in an environment surrounding a vehicle and retrieve at least one encoded context-appropriate memory. Using the at least one retrieved encoded context-appropriate memory, the system determines whether to initiate a collision avoidance operation to cause the vehicle to proactively avoid a collision.

Abstract: A III-nitride power handling device and the process of making the III-nitride power handling device are disclosed that use digital alloys as back barrier layer to mitigate the strain due to lattice mismatch between the channel layer and the back barrier layer and to provide increased channel conductivity. An embodiment discloses a GaN transistor using a superlattice binary digital alloy as back barrier comprising alternative layers of AlN and GaN. Other embodiments include using superlattice structures with layers of GaN and AlGaN as well as structures using AlGaN/AlGaN stackups that have different Aluminum concentrations. The disclosed device has substantially increased channel conductivity compared to traditional analog alloy back barrier devices.

Abstract: The system is directed to a plurality of nodes in a network and a process by which the nodes reach a consensus ordering of broadcast messages. For example, one or more nodes proceed by agreeing on an order of two or more broadcast message derived events A and B. If a node sees event A longer than a time period (T6) before seeing event B, then the node outputs “A consensus-before B” as a consensus broadcast ordering. If the node sees the event A and not the event B after waiting at least T6, then the node outputs “A consensus-before B” as a consensus broadcast ordering. However, if the node sees both events A and event B within T6, then the node broadcasts a request for a vote on message ordering, executes a consensus broadcast reception protocol for the votes, and makes an ordering decision based on the votes received.

Abstract: An adaptive detection and nulling system includes an antenna or radio frequency aperture, an electronically tunable radome placed over the antenna or radio frequency aperture, the radome including a plurality of scatterers on a substrate, and one or more tunable reactance elements connecting at least two of the scatterers, a microcontroller coupled to the tunable reactive elements and configured to control the reactance values of the one or more tunable reactance elements, and a sensing circuit coupled to the microcontroller, wherein inputs from the sensing circuit are used by the microcontroller to adaptively determine bias voltages to the one or more tunable reactance elements using characterization data of the radome to control the tunable reactance elements to form one or more nulls in a receive radiation pattern of the antenna.

Abstract: Described is a system for anonymous job allocation and majority voting in a cloud computing environment. The system broadcasts a job to physical nodes, each of the physical nodes having a control operations plane (COP) node and one or more service nodes associated with the COP node. A set of redundant job assignments is distributed to individual COP nodes pursuant to a private job assignment schedule, such that each individual COP node is only aware of its own assignment and corresponding job. The service nodes execute the job assigned to the COP nodes such that the service nodes each complete a task associated with the job and forward an individual result to their associated COP node. A privacy-preserving result checking protocol is performed amongst the COP nodes such that secret shares of a majority result are obtained and the majority result is provided to a client.

Abstract: Described is a system for explaining how the human brain represents conceptual knowledge. A semantic model is developed, and a behavioral exam is performed to assess a calibration subject into a cohort and reveal semantic relationships to modify a personalized semantic space developed by the semantic model. Semantic features are extracted from the personalized semantic space. Neural features are extracted from neuroimaging of the human subject. A neuroceptual lattice is created having nodes representing attributes by aligning the semantic features and the neural features. Structures in the neuroceptual lattice are identified to quantify an extent to which the set of neural features represents a target concept. The identified structures are used to interpret conceptual knowledge in the brain of a test subject.

Abstract: We have developed a scalable approach to directly incorporate grain-refining nanoparticles into conventional hot-tear-susceptible pure aluminum or aluminum alloy powders. These aluminum alloy powders may be additively manufactured into high-strength, crack-free aluminum alloys with fine equiaxed microstructures by incorporating nanoparticle nucleants to control solidification during additive manufacturing. Some variations provide an additively manufactured aluminum alloy comprising aluminum and at least one grain-refining element, wherein the additively manufactured aluminum alloy has a microstructure with equiaxed grains. Pure aluminum or aluminum alloys, combined with grain refiners, are useful in many processes beyond additive manufacturing. Some variations provide an aluminum alloy comprising aluminum and grain-refining nanoparticles selected from zirconium, tantalum, niobium, or titanium, wherein the aluminum alloy has a microstructure that is substantially crack-free with equiaxed grains.
