A method and system for wireless communication in a wireless network is provided. One implementation involves a requesting wireless station directionally transmitting a request to a coordinator for access to a communication channel; the request packet includes a field indicating the length of the desired reservation period; and upon successfully receiving the request from the wireless station, the coordinator reserving a channel time period for data transmission by the requesting wireless station, and at least pseudo-omni-directionally broadcasting a packet to all wireless stations in the network indicating the reservation. All other stations refrain from contending the channel during the reserved channel time period.

A method and system for sending the same data in multiple directions via directional transmission is disclosed. One embodiment of the invention allows for processing power to be saved by introducing a buffer in the physical (PHY) layer, after some baseband (BB) processing has been performed. In one embodiment of the invention the method comprises receiving data from a MAC layer, performing preliminary processing on data in the PHY layer, storing the preliminarily processed data in a buffer located in the PHY layer, performing secondary processing on the preliminarily processed data, transmitting the secondarily processed data in a first direction, via directional transmission, reading the preliminarily processed data from the buffer, performing secondary processing on the preliminarily processed data, and transmitting the secondarily processed data in a second, third, fourth and so-on direction.

A wireless station performs carrier sensing by sensing a wireless communication channel for ongoing communications in one or more directions. Upon detecting that the wireless communication channel is idle, the station transmits a frame preamble on the channel to a receiving wireless station in more than one transmit direction, and transmits a frame payload on the channel to the receiving wireless station in one transmit direction.

A method and system for audio transmission in a wireless communication system which transmits digital video and digital audio in High-Definition Multimedia Interface (HDMI) format. Position information of audio packets within the HDMI frame is obtained. Digital audio information including the position information is transmitted from a data source device to a data sink device via a wireless communication medium. At the data sink device, an HDMI frame is reconstructed by inserting received audio packets into horizontal and vertical blanking periods of the HDMI frame.

A high accuracy clock synchronization mechanism between a sender and a receiver in a communication network achieves time synchronization using broadcast beacons, directly at the PHY/MAC layer of the sender and the receiver, to minimize synchronization delay jitter. This provides a more efficient synchronization method than either NTP or SNTP, because multiple handshaking information exchange is avoided. Further, using beacons avoids the overhead of introducing additional synchronization packets in higher layer synchronization.

One embodiment comprises wireless communication of stereoscopic 3D video information including an uncompressed first eye view video frame and a corresponding stereoscopic uncompressed second eye view video frame, from a transmitting wireless station to a receiving wireless station. In one embodiment, a set of pixels in an uncompressed first eye view video frame is transmitted over a wireless communication medium. Pixel information in a set of pixels in an uncompressed second eye view video frame corresponding to the first eye view set of pixels is reduced to generate a reduced set of pixels. The reduced set of pixels is transmitted over the wireless communication medium. At the receiving wireless station, an uncompressed second eye view video set of pixels is reconstructed based on said first eye view set of pixels and said reduced set of pixels.
