Abstract: Embodiments of the present disclosure include separating devices and systems and methods of use. Embodiments of the present disclosure include separation devices including magnetic arrays and sheet-flow separation chambers. In an embodiment, the separating device enables the generation of multiple, and in some configurations, intersecting, high gradient magnetic field lines, resulting in strong separation forces, which permit for scale up to large areas and/or volumes (e.g., extracorporeal blood filtration system).

Abstract: A method of detecting hardware Trojans in an IC includes providing a golden IC layout data set or SEM image data taken at long dwelling time on an active area of the golden IC after polishing it from the backside. Next, the IC under authentication (IUA) sample is prepared for fast SEM imagining (shorter dwelling time) after backside thinning. Next step is to perform image processing on the IUA's SEM image, which includes histogram equalization with noise filtering using Gaussian and Median filters. In the last step, the IUA sample data with the shorter dwelling time is compared with the golden IC layout data or the golden image data from high quality (longer dwelling time) SEM scanning process. At the end the result of the comparison is used to identify hardware Trojans.

Abstract: Thaxtomins are phytotoxic secondary metabolites produced in plant pathogenic Streptomyces strains and have received considerable interests as bioherbicides. A cell-free, biocombinatorial approach was developed to produce a thaxtomin library for herbicide development. Combination of biosynthetic enzymes led to the production of 136 substituted 2,5-diketopiperazines, thaxtomin D, thaxtomin B and thaxtomin A analogs in a single pot. Furthermore, rational engineering of TxtA allowed the synthesis of azido-containing thaxtomin analog. Selected unnatural thaxtomins demonstrated improved herbicidal activities. This abstract is intended as a scanning tool for purposes of searching in the particular art and is not intended to be limiting of the present disclosure.

Abstract: Embodiments of the subject invention relate to an electropermanent magnet core (EPM core) having two permanent magnets (or two permanent magnet portions where each portion can have one or more permanent magnets), including a fixed permanent magnet portion and a switching permanent magnet portion, where a switching magnetic field is used to switch the magnetization of the switching permanent magnet portion, but not switch the magnetization of the fixed permanent magnet portion. In this way, the fixed permanent magnet portion has a fixed magnetization, such that the direction of magnetization of the fixed permanent magnet portion remains the same during switching of the magnetization of the switching permanent magnet portion, given the magnitude and duration of the switching magnetic field used to switch the magnetization of the switching permanent magnet portion, and the switching permanent magnet portion has a switching magnetization, such that the direction of magnetization of the switching permanent magnet portion is switched during switching of the magnetization of the switching permanent magnet portion, given the magnitude and duration of the switching magnetic field used to switch the magnetization of the switching permanent magnet portion.

Abstract: Disclosed herein are nucleic acids, vector systems, and vaccines for vaccinating fresh water and marine fish using Ichthyophthirius multifiliis (Ich) i-antigens. In particular, a recombinant attenuated Edwardsiella vaccine (RAEV) vector system is disclosed with regulated delayed attenuation and regulated delayed lysis in vivo attributes that synthesizes Ich protective antigens to enable vaccination of fresh water and marine fish species susceptible to white spot disease. This vaccine construct is designed to exhibit the invasive properties of virulent Edwardsiella at the time of bath immunization and then is programmed to gradually lose virulence attributes and to synthesize protective antigens as a consequence of in vivo cell division as the RAEV colonizes internal effector lymphoid tissues. The ultimate lysis in vivo delivers a bolus of protective antigen along with immunostimulatory molecules to exhibit complete biological containment with no potential for survival in vivo or ex vivo.

Abstract: A visible light photocatalyst coating includes a metal oxide that in the presence of a organic contaminate that absorbs at least some visible light or includes the metal oxide and an auxiliary visible light absorbent, where upon absorption of degradation of the organic contaminate occurs. Contaminates can be microbes, such as bacteria, viruses, or fungi. The metal oxide is nanoparticulate or microparticulate. The metal oxide can be TiO2. The coating can include an auxiliary dye having an absorbance of light in at least a portion of the visible spectrum. The coating can include a suspending agent, such as NaOH. The visible light photocatalyst coating can cover a surface of a device that is commonly handled or touched, such as a door knob, rail, or counter.
