    Abstract: A surface enhanced Raman spectroscopy (SERS) sensor may include a nano structured surface and a nonstoichiometric oxide layer. The nano structured surfers may include a first peak, a second peak and a valley between the first peak and the second peak. The non-stoichiometric oxide layer may include a first portion on the first peak and a second portion on the second peak.

    Abstract: A PCR kit-of-parts is described. The kit-of-parts comprises a first oligonucleotide bound to a bead by a cleavable linker; a second oligonucleotide bound to a bead by a cleavable linker; and an enzyme bound to a bead by a cleavable linker; wherein the first and second oligonucleotide form an oligonucleotide pair complementary to a nucleic acid of interest and the enzyme is capable of extending nucleic acid strands; and each cleavable linker is independently selected from a photocleavable linker and a thermally cleavable linker. Also described is a method of performing PCR and a PCR system.

    Abstract: An example overfill-tolerant microfluidic structure can include an inlet microfluidic channel. A sample chamber can be connected to the inlet microfluidic channel to receive liquid from the inlet microfluidic channel. A gas-permeable liquid barrier can be connected to the sample chamber and positioned to allow gas to flow out of the sample chamber. An overflow chamber can be connected to the inlet microfluidic channel. A capillary break can be positioned between the inlet microfluidic channel and the overflow chamber. The capillary break can include a narrowed opening with a smaller width than a width of the inlet microfluidic channel. In some examples, the gas-permeable liquid barrier can allow gas to flow out of the sample chamber at a pressure lower than the break pressure, and prevent liquid from flowing out of the sample chamber at the break pressure.
