Abstract: A blade outer airseal has a body comprising: an inner diameter (ID) surface; an outer diameter (OD) surface; a leading end; and a trailing end. The airseal body has a metallic substrate and a coating system atop the substrate along at least a portion of the inner diameter surface. At least over a first area of the inner diameter surface, the coating system comprises an abradable layer and a thermal barrier layer between the abradable layer and the substrate; and the thermal barrier layer comprises a ceramic and metallic phases within the ceramic.

Abstract: A blade includes an airfoil section extending between leading and trailing edges, first and second opposed sides each joining the leading and trailing edges, and an inner end and a free tip end. The airfoil section is formed of a metal-based material with a polymeric overcoat on at least one of the leading edge, trailing edge, first side and second side. The airfoil section includes an abrasive tip at the free tip end. The abrasive tip has a composition selected with respect to heat-induced delamination of the polymeric overcoat from frictional heat generated during rubbing of the abrasive tip.

Abstract: A gas turbine engine includes an inlet duct, a compressor section, a combustor section, and a turbine section connected to drive the compressor section. The compressor section includes circumferentially-spaced blades having abrasive blade tips. A seal is disposed radially outwards of the blades. The seal includes a substrate that has a substrate hardness, an abradable layer that has an abradable layer hardness, and a hard interlayer between the substrate and the abradable layer. The hard interlayer has an interlayer hardness that is higher than the abradable layer hardness and higher than the substrate hardness.

Abstract: A fixture assembly includes a standoff, a backplate and a spray coating shield attached to a support. The assembly supports a workpiece and sprays a base coat at substantially ninety degrees with respect to a surface of the workpiece to coat the workpiece with the base coat. The assembly sprays a top coat at an angle with respect to the surface of the workpiece to mask a shadowed surface area of the workpiece, where the angle different from ninety degrees.
