    摘要: A coated abrasive article comprised of a backing having a layer of grains adherently bonded thereto by a binding material, wherein the layer of grains comprises abrasive grains and nonabrasive composite grains, and the nonabrasive composite grains comprise inorganic nonabrasive particles bonded together by a binder selected from the group consisting of a metal salt of fatty acid, colloidal silica, and combinations thereof. The abrasive article has an unexpected abrading efficiency, performing equal to, or superior to, a coated abrasive article containing only abrasive grains. The invention also relates to a bonded abrasive article comprising the abrasive grains and nonabrasive composite grains adhered together.

    摘要: Method for texturing a surface of a metallic thin film of a magnetic disk substrate comprising the steps of: (a) frictionally contacting the surface of the metallic thin film with an abrasive article, wherein the abrasive article comprises an abrasive coating including a water-soluble binder and abrasive particles, wherein the abrasive coating is adhesively attached to a flexible foraminous fibrous backing; and (b) abrading the surface of the metallic thin film by moving the metallic thin film and the abrasive article relative to one another with the abrasive coating in contact with an aqueous liquid solution to form scratches in the surface of the metallic thin film, wherein the liquid solution is free of abrasive particles before contact is initiated with the abrasive coating.

    摘要: A flexible honeycomb panel containing wire or other abrasive material for abrading a workpiece, including a honeycomb core embedded with a quantity of abrasive material, and a facing sheet. The honeycomb core is formed of undulating strips of resilient thermoplastic material that are thermal compression bonded together to form cell walls defining a plurality of contiguous regularly shaped cells. The abrasive material is contained within the strips. The facing sheet, formed of resilient thermoplastic material, is thermal compression bonded to a face of the core. The bonding is accomplished by simultaneously applying heat and pressure to the joinder of the facing sheet and the core. The opposite face of the core remains uncovered. In use, the uncovered face of the core is brought into rubbing contact with the workpiece. The force imparted by the frictional contact is sufficient to wear down the plastic cell wall material, expose the abrasive material, and cause the material to come into contact with the workpiece with sufficient force to abrade the surface of the workpiece.
