Abstract:
A scanning method that saves time by reducing calculations performed in a scanner. The scanner has a housing, a transparent platform installed on the housing, a document positioned on the transparent platform, a scanning module, a calibration paper, a memory, and a processor. If an effective image range has been determined within a predetermined amount of time after the scanner is turned on, the effective image range will not be redefined before scanning the document.
Abstract:
In an image reading device having a sheet-through mechanism, a controller controls a stepping motor to decelerate an image reading system when the image reading system is moved to a reference white plate reading position, and controls a stepping motor drive electric current to decrease when the image reading system reads a reference white plate. When the image reading system finishes reading the reference white plate, the controller controls the stepping motor drive electric current to increase so as to rapidly decelerate the image reading system. The controller further controls the stepping motor such that a moving speed of the image reading system to an original document reading position is lower than a moving speed of the image reading system to the reference white plate reading position.
Abstract:
A duplex image reading apparatus has a transportation path for transporting a sheet original to a reading region by an original transporting device, and first and second reading devices placed corresponding to respective transportation sides of the sheet original in the reading region of the transportation path, and is constructed in such structure that each of the first and second reading devices is of such a configuration that a color reference portion used as a color reference for reading is opposed to a reading portion while the color reference portion and the reading portion are placed on two sides with the transportation sides of the sheet original in between, wherein the first and second reading devices are arranged so that either one of the reading portion and the color reference portion is supported so as to be movable in a direction substantially perpendicular to an image reading surface of the reading portion.
Abstract:
An image scanner arrangement having a scanner, a document feeder scanning portion and a flat scanning bed. A single white plate is provided between the document feeder scanning portion and flat bed. Before scanning, the scanner scans the white plate to provide image data for testing. If this image data contains white pixels not less than 90%, a controller determines that a lamp of a light source of the scanner illuminates appropriately. After confirming that the light source is in a good condition, the scanning starts. The single white plate is utilized regardless of scanning being performed with the document feeder scanning portion or the flat scanning bed.
Abstract:
A reference surface for determining a threshold level of an image sensor is provided on a guide plate swingable with a cover away from the image sensor. The reference surface has markings thereon for determining a reading range of the image sensor. The image reading device makes three detections from the reading of the reference surface: a detection of the cover position by detecting the presence of the markings; a detection of the reading range of the image sensor by detecting the arrangement of the markings; and a detection of the threshold level of the image sensor by detecting the background of the reference surface. The threshold level is not taken until the device has determined that the cover is closed.
Abstract:
A paper feed roller (5) is divided into a first roller (5a) and a second roller (5b); a slit (58) through which about 10 to 20 sheets of documents can pass is formed between the first roller and a gate plate (57) opposite to this; and the paper fed out therefrom is fed out to a space between the second roller (5b) and a separation pad (7) in contact with this. Also, there is adopted a construction in which the pressing force of a paper conveyance spring is transformed by a slide cam sliding in a direction parallel to the paper feed roller; and the paper width detection sensor is assembled by a fitting construction.
Abstract:
A moveable member which is moveable between first and second positions relative to an optical axis of an imaging camera is used to calibrate the camera. The moveable member has a first reference member positioned at the optical axis when the moveable member is in the first position, and has a second reference member positioned at the optical axis when the moveable member is in the second position. A preferred embodiment has a first calibration device for a front camera and a second calibration for a rear camera when both the front and the rear of the document are to be imaged. A single actuator is used to simultaneously move both moveable members of the first and second calibration devices between the positions mentioned.
Abstract:
A diagnostic test process is provided for a visual verification of the spatial illumination characteristics of an illumination system used in a raster input scanner (RIS) system. A calibration reference strip is illuminated by the RIS scanning lamp and the reflected image is detected by a photosensor array. The output data from the photosensor is sampled at predetermined time intervals with each sampling being displayed as a video illumination profile at a display screen. The profile is superimposed on a calibration grid with indicia which allow verification that the lamp calibration is still valid. An out of spec calibration display prompts an operator or tech rep to initiate a recalibration routine or to replace the lamps or possibly clean the optical system components.
Abstract:
There is provided an image reading apparatus including a first reading sensor provided in a first reading unit and configured to read one surface of the sheet, a second reading sensor provided in a second reading unit provided to face the first reading sensor and configured to read an image on the other surface of the sheet, a first background portion serving as a reading background of the first reading sensor, a second background portion serving as a reading background of the second reading sensor, and a moving portion configured to integrally move the first reading sensor and the second background portion, wherein the first reading unit includes a sensor case in which the first reading sensor is provided, and the sensor case is fixed to the apparatus main body.
Abstract:
An image scanner includes a transparent plate, a scanning device, a driving device, a positioning member, a light absorbing portion and a white reference portion. The transparent plate has an original placing surface. The scanning device irradiates an original with light by means of a light source and scans reflected light from the original. The driving device reciprocates the scanning device along the transparent plate. The positioning member positions the original placed on the original placing surface of the transparent plate. The light absorbing portion, which is disposed on the original placing surface side of the positioning member and at substantially a central portion of the positioning member in moving directions of the scanning device, absorbs ambient light entering to the original placing surface side of the positioning member through the transparent plate. The white reference portion is provided to the original placing surface side of the positioning member.
