    摘要: A bifocal pillbox antenna system is disclosed comprising a controller means providing control voltages and sequential switching signals to scan circuits. The scan circuits provide RF energy selectively to feed elements of a contoured feed array for radiation in a waveguide means. The waveguide means includes a waveguide and a pair of reflectors specially shaped to provide a pair of spaced focal points. The energy radiating from the feed elements with a non-linear phase distribution is guided to the specially shaped reflectors and reflected with a nearly linear phase distribution for transmission.

    摘要: An improved antenna system of the type including a parabolic antenna with offset exciting in which only the upper portion of the parabola is used, an approximately horizontal bottom plate, and an exciter which is disposed above the bottom plate. The exciter has a tilt angle of about 50.degree.. The paraboloidal reflector is covered by a dielectric cover plate which is inclined to the vertical so that the cover plate and parabola contact in a single plane, and a portion of both sides of the width of the parabola is removed, and side sheets are provided to connect the paraboloidal bowl and the cover plate. The exciter is a conical multimode exciter with an aperture angle of about 100.degree. and is provided with at least one and preferably a plurality of concentrically arranged slits on the conical surface of the exciter facing the paraboloidal reflector with the depth of the slits decreasing in a direction toward the edge of the cone adjacent the reflector. The width of the slits is between .lambda./10 and .lambda./20, the spacing between adjacent ones of the slits is between .lambda./8 and .lambda./4, the smaller diameter of the conical exciter is about .lambda./1.2, and the larger diameter of the conical exciter is about 3.lambda., where .lambda. is the wavelength of the center frequency of the operating frequency band of the antenna system.

    摘要: A slot radiating element for use in a two-dimensional phased array is in the ''''end'''' wall of a septated waveguide which is stepped-down in back of the radiating element to allow for excitation by means of reduced-height waveguide, stripline, coaxial line or other feeding networks without requiring additional vertical or horizontal spacing between the radiating elements. The radiating element constitutes a crossed or vertical slot or circular hole in the end wall centered over the septum with an additional slot in the septum extending into the cavity from the radiating element to excite the horizontal component (component in the plane of the septum) of polarization. Opposite sides of the septum are excited in antiphase (odd mode) to cause excitation of an electric field parallel to the septum in the radiating slot or hole and are fed in-phase (even mode) to cause excitation of an electric field perpendicular to the plane of the septum in the radiating element. Thus, polarization of the radiating slots or hole and, hence, the antenna is controlled by controlling the phase and/or amplitude relationship between the two excitations. In view of the arbitrary height of the slotted end wall, arrays can be stacked close enough to allow the capability of being scanned by phase shift in that plane, without formation of grating lobes.

In a microwave aerial feed arrangement a flared receive horn contains a coaxial higherfrequency flared transmit horn which projects from its mouth. It is stated that a substantial de-coupling is provided between the transmit horn and the receive horn by this arrangement. As described, a flared pyramidal horn 10 is fed from a transmitter 20 by a waveguide 18 operating in the TE 01 mode and projects from a similar larger receive horn 12 which is connected to a waveguide 22. A receiver 34 is connected to one terminal of a stripline hybrid ring 30 and connections are taken from two other terminals thereof, between which there is a phase difference of 180 degrees, to two probes 26, 28 in the waveguide 22, which is in consequence also caused to operate in the TE 01 mode. The feed arrangement may be associated with a paraboloidal main reflector 38, Fig. 3 (not shown), when the angles of flare of the horns and their dimensions are made such that their phase centres either coincide with the focus of the reflector or, that the phase centres of the transmit and receive horns are on opposite sides of, and small distances from, the focus, with the beam angles of the horns corresponding with the angle subtended by the main reflector at the focus. The feed arrangement may comprise sectoral horns instead of pyramidal horns, when a main cylindrical parabolic reflector may be used.
