An antenna assembly is designed to operate over a wide band from around 880 MHz to around 2,500 MHz by means of a monopole antenna element designed to operate from around 880 MHz to around 2,500 MHz typically from the GSM bands to the Bluetooth or IEEE 802.11b band. The operation band width of the assembly is increased by the provision of a conductive member located on a reverse side of the supporting substrate of the antenna. In one embodiment the conductive member is a standard panel mount SMA connector. The assembly is able to provide wireless operation in multiple frequency bands, not previously possible in a practical manner.

The present invention relates to an antenna equipped in a mobile telecommunication apparatus such as a portable telephone. The object of the invention is to enhance the portability and the durability of the mobile telecommunication apparatus, to provide a mobile telecommunication antenna while is improved in the mass productivity and the electrical characteristics, and to provide a mobile telecommunication apparatus employing the antenna. To achieve the object of the present invention, the mobile communication apparatus has no projecting portion of the antenna provided on a case, and the antenna is accommodated in the case. This enhances both the portability and the durability. Also, the antenna is reduced to a chip size thus improving its mass-productivity and electrical characteristics.

The invention provides An antenna device, comprising: a substrate made of an insulation material and including a first major surface and a second major surface face; a ground electrode provided substantially on the whole of the first major surface of said substrate; and an inverted F-shape antenna and a microstrip antenna respectively provided on the surface of the substrate. An open end of a radiation electrode of the microstrip antenna and a feeding electrode of the inverted F-shape antenna are capacitively coupled to each other. A first direction through the open end and ground end of the radiation electrode of the inverted F-shape antenna is substantially perpendicular to a second direction through the open end and ground end of the radiation electrode of the microstrip antenna. By the above arrangement, a mutual interference hardly occurs between the two antennas.
