My invention comprises a ballistic impact printer which includes a gun for successively propelling balls to a printing medium spaced from the gun. The balls are fed to the printer from a reservoir and recycled to the reservoir after they have performed their impact-printing function. I provide a bleeder duct for the projectiles intermediate the projectile feeder and the gun. When no printing occurs, the balls are deflected to the bleeder duct and never reach the gun. When printing is desired, the bleeder duct is blocked in order to constrain the projectiles to be fed to the gun, past a deflector which normally diverts the projectiles to the bleeder duct. The gate is a rapidly acting, electrically actuated assembly employing a piezo crystal or crystals, an electromagnet, or a solenoid. The deflector is positioned in the feeding duct and may be spring-loaded so it will yield when the gate is closed.

Apparatus for collating, stacking or otherwise sorting successive sheets of paper delivered from the output station of a sheet-delivering device, for example, from a photocopier. A compact stack of a selected number of sheet-receiving trays is lifted above the output station and the trays are caused to drop one at a time to a position below the output station such that each can receive one or more sheets from the output station. In a preferred embodiment, the trays are mounted to move between the top and bottom of a vertically movable frame in which the trays are lifted to form an upper stack from which they are successively dropped to form a lower compact stack with an intervening space into which the sheets are delivered to be deposited on the uppermost tray of the lower stack. The top of the frame is supported by the upper stack and the bottom of the frame supports the lower stack whereby, as the height of the upper stack is progressively reduced, the height of the lower stack is increased, but since the frame lowers with the upper stack, the position and dimensions of the sheet-receiving space between stacks remains substantially constant. Mechanical and electrical devices and controls are provided for automatic or manual operation in various modes and in proper timed relation with delivery of sheets from the output station.

My invention comprises charging a photoconductive surface in the dark and exposing it to a light and shade image of the original to produce a latent electrostatic image. The latent electrostatic image is then developed by any method known to the art employing a liquid developing fluid, and the apparent resolution or sharpness of the developed image is increased by exposing the developed image, while on the photoconductor, to the action of blanket light. The sharpened image may then be transferred to a carrier sheet by any method known to the art.The apparatus of my invention comprises a conventional electrophotographic reproduction apparatus in which a means is provided for subjecting a liquid-developed image, while on the photoconductor, to the action of blanket light. This means is positioned to act before the liquid-developed image is transferred to a carrier sheet after it has been developed, if a transfer is to take place.

The invention relates to a sheet feeding station for a magazine in which a plurality of individual sheets are located one against another, with a pneumatic pick-up roller rotatably mounted adjacent to the magazine and at that end of the magazine from which the sheets are destined to leave the magazine. The invention is characterized in that the roller is stationary in a precisely defined rest position at the start of a sheet-feeding feeding operation and remains in this rest position until it is sensed that a sheet is held against it by air pressure, the roller then rotating to feed the sheet so held, and continuing to rotate until the sheet-feeding operation has been completed.

The methods and systems utilize one or more of a dispensing device which is configured to provide customized composition for treating keratinous fibers (e.g., a coloring composition), optionally formed from tablets; an optical reader, for obtaining sufficient characteristics of the keratinous fibers to make a realistic prediction of the outcome of a treatment (e.g., coloring treatment); a computational units for predicting an outcome of a treatment, optionally being interfaced with the dispensing device and for selecting a customized treatment; and tablet formulations which are useful in preparing customized composition for treating keratinous fibers. Further disclosed are rapidly disintegrating tablets for use in the preparation of compositions for treating keratinous fibers.

The first piece of lenticular printing substrate has a pitch which is substantially identical to a second lenticular printing substrate to be used in the lenticular printing run.
