Abstract: The presentation invention relates to methods and apparatus for managing cable network power consumption. An exemplary method in accordance with one embodiment includes the steps of: receiving a message by a cable modem instructing the cable modem to reduce power consumption; increasing, by the cable modem, a buffer size of at least one of: (i) a cable modem downlink buffer included in the cable modem, or (ii) a cable modem uplink buffer included in the cable modem in response to receiving the message; and switching, by the cable modem, from a first mode of operation to a second mode of operation after performing one or both of: (i) transmitting uplink data to the cable modem termination system, and (ii) transmitting downlink data to a wireless base station, said second mode of operation being a power savings modem of operation.

Abstract: Apparatus and methods for providing multi-tier quasi-licensed spectrum wireless service via a common wireless access node such as a small-cell. In one embodiment, the quasi-licensed system utilizes multi-sector antennae to create antenna lobes adaptively according to parameters associated with different cell sectors, such as user traffic, random access requests, and/or interference. In one variant, when the user traffic or interference is determined to be very high in a particular sector, the sector is configured and activated based on the availability of low-noise spectrum. In another variant, when a new sector is created, the electrical power resources available for that sector are checked, and based on the amount of power available at that sector, either CBSD Category A or B status is allocated to that sector.

Abstract: Methods and apparatus for managing spectrum in a wireless communications system. In an exemplary method embodiment, a wireless base station: (i) receives user equipment capability information from a first user equipment device; (ii) determines whether to allocate licensed or unlicensed spectrum to the first user equipment device based on the received user equipment capability information; and (iii) communicates a first spectrum allocation grant to the first user equipment device identifying the allocated spectrum for use by the first user equipment device. In various embodiments, the licensed and unlicensed spectrum are divided into bandwidth parts that are scored or ranked based on the quality and/or quantity of the spectrum bandwidth part.

Abstract: Methods and systems for citizens broadband radio service (CBRS) device (CBSD) interference management is described. A method for managing shared spectrum network interference includes determining, by a Citizens Broadband Radio Service (CBRS) device (CBSD) granted shared spectrum by a spectrum access system (SAS), a number of mobile devices in a defined number of regions in a cell covered by the CBSD, assigning, by the CBSD, a greater number of antennas to a cell edge region from the defined number of regions than a remaining regions in the defined number of regions, and assigning, by the CBSD, at least 8 antennas to each mobile device of a defined number of mobile devices of the number of mobile devices in the cell edge region to transmit non-overlapping and directive beams to mitigate interference at the cell edge region.

Abstract: In a (5G CBRS) network having a (CBSD) base station communicating with a (SAS) bandwidth manager via a cable modem (CM), the CM maintains a long timer and a short timer for each bandwidth allocation to the CBSD. When the CM receives a heartbeat message from the CBSD, the CM re-starts the long and short timers and transmits the heartbeat message to the SAS. When the short timer expires, the CM re-starts the short timer and transmits a copy of the stored heartbeat message to the SAS. When the long timer expires, the CM stops transmitting a copy of the stored heartbeat message to the SAS. In this way, the CM effectively extends the time limit before the SAS will de-allocate bandwidth from the CBSD to handle situations where the CBSD is temporarily unable to send heartbeat messages to the SAS even though the CBSD still needs the allocated bandwidth.

An exemplary method embodiment includes a mobile terminal: receiving from a base station a first uplink resource grant schedule including a first uplink resource grant and a second uplink resource grant, the first uplink resource grant giving the mobile terminal an exclusive right to use a first set of resource blocks on a recurring basis and the second uplink resource grant giving the mobile terminal a non-exclusive right to use a second set of resource blocks on a recurring basis; and using, by the mobile terminal, the second set of resource blocks to transmit data to the base station during at least a first time interval of the first period of time, said first period of time including multiple time intervals during which the mobile terminal has been granted the right to transmit data.
