Abstract: An apparatus for use in a multi-orientation liquid collection canister to collect liquid from a tissue site is provided. The apparatus includes a substantially planar, liquid-air separator disposed on at least one wall of the multi-orientation liquid collection canister to prevent the liquid from exiting the multi-orientation liquid collection canister. The apparatus further includes an elongated member connected to the liquid-air separator and extending away from the liquid-air separator into a first space of the multi-orientation liquid collection canister. The elongated member has a membrane defining a second space along at least a portion of a length of the elongated member. At least a portion of the membrane allows gaseous communication between the first space and the second space.

Abstract: An apparatus and system for fluidly connecting a reduced-pressure source to a dressing and a method for manufacturing and using the same include a base having an aperture and a wall having a peripheral portion coupled to the base. The wall may form a cavity in fluid communication with the aperture. The apparatus also may include a conduit port fluidly coupled to the cavity and adapted to receive a conduit. The base may be adapted to couple to the dressing, and the wall may be adapted to collapse from a first position to a second position in response to a supply of reduced pressure from the reduced-pressure source.

Abstract: Methods, devices and systems are disclosed for generating and harvesting skin grafts having improved properties and for ensuring efficient and consistent blister formation and/or reducing patient harm and discomfort. In one aspect, the invention infuses a fluid into skin tissue at the donor site to enhance blister formation. The fluid infusion can occur before or after application of negative pressure—or can be cyclically applied before or after repeated applications of negative pressure.

Abstract: A two-cavity pump having a single valve in one cavity and a bidirectional valve in another cavity is disclosed. The pump has a side wall closed by two end walls for containing a fluid. An actuator is disposed between the two end walls and functions as a portion of a common end wall of the two cavities. The actuator causes an oscillatory motion of the common end walls to generate radial pressure oscillations of the fluid within both cavities. An isolator flexibly supports the actuator. The first cavity includes the single valve disposed in one of a first and second aperture in the end wall to enable fluid flow in one direction. The second cavity includes the bidirectional valve disposed in one of a third and fourth aperture in the end wall to enable fluid flow in both directions.

Abstract: An adapter for providing fluid communication with a tissue site may include a base, a conduit housing, a primary port, at least one ancillary port, and at least one port extension. The base may define a mounting plane having a first planar side and a second planar side opposite the first planar side. The conduit housing may be supported by the base and may include a recessed region defining an entry surface. The conduit housing and the recessed region may be positioned on the first planar side with the entry surface facing the first planar side. The primary port may be on the entry surface, and the at least one ancillary port may be on the entry surface. A distal end of the port extension may be positioned on the second planar side in fluid communication with the ancillary port. Other devices, systems, and methods are disclosed.

Abstract: Illustrative embodiments of a dressing for treating a tissue site may include a fluid transport layer, an offloading layer, and a liquid deflector. The offloading layer may be in fluid communication with the fluid transport layer, and the offloading layer may include a force offloading region and a target region. The liquid deflector may be positioned between the fluid transport layer and the offloading layer. The liquid deflector may be configured to deflect a liquid from the tissue site into contact with the target region of the offloading layer. The target region may be configured to expand for offloading forces at the tissue site. Other dressings, systems, and methods are disclosed.

Abstract: The illustrative embodiments described herein are directed to apparatuses, systems, and methods for managing liquid flow associated with a tissue site that involves using reduced pressure to control fluid flow. In one instance, an apparatus includes a first valve and a second valve in fluid communication with a reduced-pressure source. The valves are movable between an open position and a closed position and are operable to change flow status (open to closed or vice versa) based on a presence of reduced pressure. At least one of the first valve or the second valve is in the closed position to obstruct a flow of a liquid while the other is in the open position. The apparatus also includes a reservoir fluidly coupled to the first valve and the second valve. Other systems, methods, and apparatuses are presented.

Abstract: Systems, methods, and apparatuses are presented that facilitate the provision of reduced pressure to a tissue site by using a delivery-and-fluid-storage bridge, which separates liquids and gases and provides a flow path for reduced pressure. In one instance, a delivery-and-fluid-storage bridge includes a delivery manifold for delivering reduced pressure to a treatment manifold at the tissue site and an absorbent layer proximate the delivery manifold adapted to receive and absorb liquids. The delivery manifold and the absorbent layer are encapsulated in an encapsulating pouch. A first aperture is formed proximate a first longitudinal end of the delivery-and-fluid-storage bridge for fluidly communicating reduced pressure to the delivery manifold from a reduced-pressure source, and a second aperture is formed on a patient-facing side of the delivery-and-fluid-storage bridge. Reduced pressure is transferred to the tissue site via the second aperture. Other systems, apparatuses, and methods are disclosed.
