    Abstract: Methods and apparatus are described for a Relay Node (RN) that is transparent to User Equipments to transmit, together with a base station (Node B), Reference Signals (RS) to UEs, to receive RS from UEs, to perform transmissions of Transport Blocks (TBs) to the Node B or to UEs and receptions of TBs from the Node B or from UEs, where the transmissions of TBs from the RN are for retransmissions associated with a Hybrid Automatic Repeat reQuest (HARD) process for the same TBs, and enabling the Node B to obtain control information signaled from UEs while signaling from the RN interferers with that signaling of control information.

A method performed by a user equipment (UE) in a wireless communication system includes identifying first offset information; determining a size of uplink data for the UE; and transmitting, to a base station in the wireless communication system, the uplink data with at least one of acknowledgement/non-acknowledgment (ACK/NACK) information and channel quality indicator (CQI) information on a physical uplink shared channel (PUSCH). The method includes receiving a broadcast signal from a base station; determining a first set of PRBs for a first physical downlink control channel (PDCCH) based on the broadcast signal; determining a second set of PRBs for a second PDCCH based on a higher layer signaling; and receiving a reference signal (RS) in the first set of PRBs or in the second set of PRBs.
